Summary

This Ford Explorer Limited represents a robust choice for families seeking a premium three-row SUV with proven GCC durability. While the mileage reflects its history as a dependable long-distance cruiser, the high-spec Limited trim ensures you benefit from features often reserved for much newer vehicles. Its all-wheel-drive system and V6 power make it exceptionally suited for both high-speed inter-emirate highway runs and weekend family excursions. In the local market, the blue exterior stands out as a unique alternative to the standard white and silver, while remaining a respected choice for resale. For a buyer looking for maximum seat count and luxury features without the premium price of a new model, this GCC-spec Explorer is a versatile workhorse.

This Car vs Other 2011 Explorers

At 220,000 km, this vehicle’s mileage is typical for a 13-year-old SUV in the GCC, where long-distance highway driving is the norm. It has been utilized as intended for the region, and its GCC specification ensures it was built with the cooling capacity required for extreme summer temperatures. The blue exterior offers a distinctive look that maintains better-than-average resale appeal compared to niche colors.

LIMITED vs Lower Trims

The Limited trim is a significant step up from the XLT, introducing luxury essentials like leather-trimmed seating and a premium 12-speaker Sony audio system. It adds convenience features highly valued in the UAE, such as a power liftgate and power-folding third-row seats, making cargo management effortless. Most importantly for the climate, the Limited trim includes ventilated front seats, a feature rarely found in lower-tier versions of this era.

Explorer vs Segment Rivals

Compared to the Toyota Prado or Honda Pilot of the same year, the Explorer offers a more car-like, refined on-road ride due to its unibody construction. Its 2,268 kg towing capacity leads many crossovers in this class, providing genuine utility for jet-ski or trailer transport. Additionally, the Ford’s intelligent 4WD system with Terrain Management offers more specialized settings for sand and mud than many road-biased competitors.

Running Costs & Resale

Real-world fuel consumption for the 3.5L V6 typically averages around 12.5 L/100km, which is efficient for a seven-seater of this size during highway cruising. Service intervals are generally every 10,000 km, with a vast network of authorized Al Tayer and Premier Motors centers across the UAE ensuring easy access to parts. While American SUVs experience higher initial depreciation than Japanese rivals, the 2011 model has reached a stable value floor, offering excellent cost-per-year ownership from this point forward.

Performance & Capability

The 290 hp V6 engine provides smooth, linear power that makes merging onto fast-moving UAE highways like the E11 effortless even when fully loaded. The Terrain Management System allows you to switch between Normal, Sand, Mud/Ruts, and Grass/Gravel/Snow modes, ensuring confidence during weekend trips to the desert fringes. With a towing capacity of 2,268 kg, it remains one of the most capable family haulers for active GCC lifestyles.

Comfort & Cabin

The cabin is designed for family logistics, featuring seven seats with a genuinely usable third row that can be stowed at the touch of a button. Dual-zone automatic climate control paired with dedicated rear AC vents ensures that all three rows remain cool during the peak of the Gulf summer. The Limited trim's ambient lighting and leather upholstery create a sophisticated environment for long night drives across the Emirates.

Safety

This Explorer comes equipped with Ford’s AdvanceTrac with Roll Stability Control, a vital system for maintaining composure on sand-slicked roads or during sudden highway maneuvers. The safety suite includes front, side, and curtain airbags providing coverage for all three rows, alongside a rearview camera that is essential for parking a vehicle of this footprint. These features were class-leading for 2011 and continue to provide peace of mind for family transport today.

The bottom line

Perfect for the growing family that needs seven seats and premium features on a budget, this GCC-spec Explorer Limited offers a lot of metal and technology for the money.
