Nissan Patrol LE PLATINUM

Highlights

• 400 hp from a 5.6-litre V8 engine
• Extensive GCC authorised service network
• Strong value retention in the GCC used market

Summary

This 2014 Nissan Patrol LE Platinum represents the high-water mark for the Y62 generation, offering a massive power advantage over the V6 variants that dominate the entry-level market. With its 5.6-litre V8, it is uniquely suited for high-speed highway cruising across the Emirates and serious desert weekend excursions where torque is non-negotiable. The Grey exterior is a neutral, high-demand choice in the GCC, ensuring it remains a liquid asset at resale compared to niche colors. While the mileage reflects active use, the body-on-frame construction is engineered for far higher limits, making this a durable long-term family workhorse. For a GCC buyer, the combination of top-tier luxury and the most powerful naturally aspirated engine in its class makes this a standout opportunity.

This Car vs Other 2014 Patrols

At 185,000 km, this vehicle sits within the typical average for a decade-old SUV in the GCC, where long-distance commuting between emirates is standard. While lower mileage examples exist, they often command a significant price premium that doesn't necessarily reflect better mechanical health. The Grey paint is one of the most resilient colors against the harsh desert sun, preventing the visible fading common in darker pigments and helping maintain its resale value in the local market.

LE Platinum vs Lower Trims

Stepping up to the LE Platinum adds the high-output 400 hp engine and a 7-speed automatic transmission, a major upgrade over the 320 hp engine and 5-speed box found in the SE models. This trim introduces essential GCC luxury features like ventilated front seats, a 360-degree camera system for easier parking, and a premium Bose audio system. It also includes the Hydraulic Body Motion Control (HBMC) suspension, which significantly reduces body roll on the highway compared to the standard suspension on lower trims.

Patrol vs Segment Rivals

The Nissan Patrol leads its primary rival, the Toyota Land Cruiser, in raw horsepower and on-road refinement, offering a smoother ride during daily city commutes. Its 140-litre fuel tank is one of the largest in the segment, providing a massive range for long-distance desert trips or cross-border travel to Oman or Saudi Arabia. Additionally, the interior space in the third row is genuinely adult-usable, a feat many American-spec rivals struggle to match.

Running Costs & Resale

Real-world fuel consumption for the 5.6L V8 typically averages 14.5 to 16.7 L/100km, which is expected for a vehicle of this size and capability in GCC stop-start traffic. Maintenance is straightforward thanks to one of the most extensive authorized service networks in the region, with parts widely available and affordable. The Patrol holds its value exceptionally well in the UAE and wider GCC, typically depreciating at a slower rate than European luxury SUVs due to its legendary reputation for reliability.

Performance & Capability

The 400 hp V8 engine delivers effortless overtaking power on the E11 and E311 highways, even when fully loaded with eight passengers. Its all-wheel-drive system features selectable modes for sand and rock, allowing it to transition from a luxury family cruiser to a capable dune-basher instantly. With a 3,500 kg braked towing capacity, it is a preferred choice for owners towing boats or jet skis to the coast.

Comfort & Cabin

The 8-seat cabin is designed for the Gulf climate, featuring a high-capacity air conditioning system with dedicated rear vents that can cool the large interior rapidly even in 45°C+ heat. The LE Platinum trim provides a cooled center console 'fridge' to keep drinks cold during long drives and features premium leather upholstery that remains comfortable during extended journeys. Triple-zone climate control ensures that all three rows of passengers stay comfortable during summer months.

Safety

Standard safety features on this trim include a 360-degree Around View Monitor, which is vital for maneuvering such a large vehicle in tight urban spaces. It is equipped with front, side, and curtain airbags, along with stability control and ABS tuned for both sand and tarmac. The inclusion of adaptive cruise control and blind-spot monitoring provides added peace of mind during fast-moving highway traffic common in the GCC.

The bottom line

This is the ideal choice for a family looking for a high-spec, high-power SUV that is as comfortable on the school run as it is crossing the Liwa dunes. It offers the maximum possible equipment level for the 2014 model year at a price point that avoids the steep depreciation of newer models.
