Summary

This 2016 Dodge Durango SXT offers a compelling balance of muscle and utility, perfect for families who need genuine three-row seating without sacrificing presence. With its Black exterior—a high-demand resale color in the GCC—it maintains a sharp, professional look that masks its 10 years of age well. While the mileage reflects a decade of regular use, this model's mechanical simplicity makes it a durable choice for the region's long-distance driving requirements. The Durango stands out in its segment by offering a rear-wheel-drive biased platform, providing a more robust feel than many front-drive crossovers. For a GCC buyer, the massive fuel tank and proven V6 engine provide the range and reliability needed for cross-emirate commutes.

This Car vs Other 2016 Durangos

At 250,000 km, this Durango's mileage is typical for a 10-year-old SUV in the GCC, where annual averages frequently reach 25,000 km due to highway-heavy commutes. Its Black finish is a significant advantage, as it remains one of the fastest-selling colors in the local used market compared to bolder or niche tones. As an American spec import, it offers a high equipment-to-price ratio, though buyers should ensure local servicing is managed at specialized American-car garages common across the UAE.

SXT vs Lower Trims

The SXT serves as the essential entry point but includes key upgrades that GCC buyers appreciate, such as three-zone automatic climate control to manage high summer temperatures. It also features a standard 8-speed automatic transmission which provides smoother highway shifts than older 6-speed units found in earlier models. Unlike more basic work-spec trims, the SXT provides a full 7-seat configuration and keyless enter-and-go as standard, ensuring a modern convenience level for daily family use.

Durango vs Segment Rivals

The Durango leads rivals like the Ford Explorer and Chevrolet Traverse in raw towing capability, with its 2,812 kg limit outclassing most unibody crossovers. Its 93-litre fuel tank is specifically beneficial for GCC drivers, offering a longer highway range between Riyadh and Dubai than its smaller-tanked competitors. While the Traverse focuses on maximum interior volume, the Durango offers a more truck-like, durable chassis that feels more stable at high highway speeds.

Running Costs & Resale

Real-world fuel consumption for the 3.6L Pentastar V6 averages around 12.4 L/100km combined, with highway figures dipping near 10 L/100km during steady GCC cruising. American spec models typically see a higher initial depreciation compared to GCC spec equivalents, making them an excellent value buy for the second or third owner. Parts availability is strong throughout the UAE and Saudi Arabia due to the high volume of Dodge vehicles in the region, ensuring maintenance remains affordable even at higher mileages.

Performance & Capability

The 295 hp Pentastar V6 is a regional favorite for its balance of power and reliability, providing confident overtaking on fast-moving multi-lane highways. With a maximum ground clearance of approximately 205 mm, it handles gravel tracks and weekend beach trips with ease. The 8-speed transmission is tuned to keep the engine in its power band, making the vehicle feel smaller and more agile than its footprint suggests during city maneuvers.

Comfort & Cabin

The cabin is designed for long-distance family logistics, featuring a genuinely usable third row that folds flat for extra cargo when needed. The three-zone climate control is a critical feature for the Gulf, allowing rear passengers to set their own cooling levels during the peak of summer. The interior is finished with durable materials designed to withstand the wear and tear of a large family while insulating the cabin from desert road noise.

Safety

This Durango comes equipped with a comprehensive safety suite including multi-stage front airbags, side-curtain airbags for all three rows, and electronic stability control with roll mitigation. The heavy-duty disc brakes are designed for consistent performance even when the vehicle is fully loaded with seven passengers. These active systems provide peace of mind on high-speed desert roads where stability and braking distance are paramount.

The bottom line

For the buyer seeking a muscular 7-seater with a strong road presence, this Black SXT represents a practical entry into the Durango family at a competitive price point.
