Summary

This 2016 Kia Sorento EX is a prime example of a mid-size SUV that balances family logistics with long-term durability, especially suited for the GCC's demanding climate. With 186,500 km, its mileage reflects a typical highway-driven life in the region, where these engines are known for reaching high milestones with routine care. The Bronze exterior is a practical, dust-resistant choice that holds up exceptionally well against the UAE sun compared to darker shades. As an EX trim, it bridges the gap between basic utility and premium comfort, offering a refined cabin for seven passengers. For a buyer seeking a reliable, GCC-spec workhorse that won't break the bank at the pump or the service center, this Sorento is a standout choice.

This Car vs Other 2016 Sorentos

At 186,500 km, this Sorento has been driven approximately 23,000 km per year, which aligns perfectly with the GCC average for family SUVs used for inter-emirate commutes. While many listings may show lower mileage, those often lack the documented consistency of a well-traveled highway vehicle. The Bronze finish is a strategic advantage for resale, as it masks desert dust far better than white or black while resisting the paint-fade often seen in the local market.

EX vs Lower Trims

The EX trim significantly upgrades the ownership experience over the base L and LX models, adding premium touches like leather-wrapped controls and enhanced cabin insulation. GCC buyers will particularly appreciate the dual-zone automatic climate control and dedicated rear vents, which are far more effective at cooling the 7-seat cabin than the manual systems in lower trims. It also typically adds features such as a power-adjustable driver’s seat and upgraded alloy wheels that maintain a higher aesthetic value.

Sorento vs Segment Rivals

The Sorento holds a distinct edge over rivals like the Honda CR-V and Toyota RAV4 by offering a genuine third row of seating, allowing it to compete with larger vehicles like the Toyota Highlander while remaining easier to park in tight city spaces. Its 70-litre fuel tank provides a superior cruising range for long drives between Dubai and Muscat compared to its compact crossover competitors. Additionally, the interior material quality in the 2016 redesign was widely regarded as punchier and more soft-touch than the Mitsubishi Outlander of the same era.

Running Costs & Resale

Running costs for the 2.4L Sorento are highly competitive, with a real-world combined fuel consumption averaging around 9.5 to 11 L/100km depending on GCC traffic conditions. Being a GCC-spec Kia, it benefits from one of the most widespread authorized service networks in the region, ensuring parts are affordable and readily available in every major city from Riyadh to Abu Dhabi. The Sorento historically retains approximately 60-65% of its value after three years in the UAE, making it a safer financial bet than many European counterparts.

Performance & Capability

The 2.4L 4-cylinder engine produces a reliable 170 to 185 hp, focusing on smooth power delivery and fuel efficiency for daily school runs and highway cruising. Its six-speed automatic transmission is tuned for comfort, providing a quiet ride that masks road noise effectively even at 120 km/h. While designed primarily for the road, its 185 mm ground clearance provides enough confidence for graded gravel tracks and weekend trips to the beach.

Comfort & Cabin

The cabin is designed around a 'flat-fold' philosophy, where both the second and third rows can drop to create a massive 2,066-litre cargo space for furniture or camping gear. With all seven seats in use, the rear AC vents ensure that even third-row passengers stay cool during the peak of the GCC summer. The EX interior features intuitive controls and a well-damped suspension that prioritizes passenger comfort over sporty stiffness, making it ideal for the long, straight highways of the Emirates.

Safety

Safety is a priority in the 2016 Sorento, which achieved a 5-star ANCAP rating and features a high-strength steel chassis. Standard safety includes electronic stability control and ABS, which are crucial for maintaining traction on sandy road shoulders or during sudden stops in fast-moving highway traffic. It also comes equipped with multiple airbags and ISOFIX child seat anchors, providing peace of mind for families across the GCC.

The bottom line

For the pragmatic GCC family, this Sorento EX offers the perfect balance of 7-seat utility and low running costs, wrapped in a color that’s built for the desert environment. It is the ideal upgrade for a growing family that values Kia’s regional reliability and parts availability.
