Summary

This 2016 Kia Sorento EX offers a practical seven-seat configuration that remains highly sought after by families in the GCC. The brown exterior provides a sophisticated alternative to standard shades and holds its condition well under the desert sun, while the EX trim introduces leather-trimmed seating and dual-zone climate control for enhanced cabin comfort. Despite the higher mileage, the Sorento is known for its mechanical simplicity and cost-effective maintenance across the UAE. As an American spec model, it provides a high feature-to-price ratio for buyers looking for a dependable family workhorse. Kia’s strong local presence ensures that parts and expert servicing are readily available from Dubai to Muscat.

This Car vs Other 2016 Sorentos

With a mileage of 237,860 km, this Sorento has been a dedicated highway cruiser, which is common for family SUVs in the GCC region where inter-emirate travel is frequent. While this is above the regional average for its age, the 2016 model year represents a significant generation leap for the Sorento, offering a stiffer chassis and improved sound insulation compared to older units. The brown exterior is a resilient choice for the local climate, masking dust better than darker tones and maintaining a unique presence in the used market.

EX vs Lower Trims

The EX trim is a significant step up from the base L and LX models, adding features that are essential for the GCC summer. It typically includes leather seat trim, dual-zone automatic climate control, and rear air conditioning vents to ensure all seven passengers stay cool. Additionally, the EX trim benefits from acoustic windshield glass and enhanced interior materials, providing a much quieter highway experience than the entry-level variants.

Sorento vs Segment Rivals

The Sorento competes directly with the Hyundai Santa Fe and the Toyota Fortuner, carving out a niche with its car-like unibody comfort and superior turning circle. Unlike the more rugged, body-on-frame Fortuner, the Sorento offers a smoother ride on paved highways and easier maneuverability in tight city parking. Its 71-liter fuel tank provides ample range for long desert highway stretches between Abu Dhabi and Riyadh.

Running Costs & Resale

The 2.4L four-cylinder engine is designed for efficiency, averaging approximately 9.5 L/100km on the highway, making it one of the more economical seven-seaters to run in stop-start city traffic. Kia enjoys one of the most robust service networks in the GCC, with authorized centers and affordable spare parts widely available in every major city. While American spec vehicles generally experience a slightly higher initial depreciation than GCC spec units, the Sorento's reputation for durability helps it maintain a steady value floor in the second-hand market.

Performance & Capability

The 185 hp output is delivered smoothly through a 6-speed automatic transmission, providing reliable power for daily school runs and highway commuting. While not a dedicated off-roader, its ground clearance is sufficient for gravel tracks and weekend camping trips. For those needing to haul extra gear, this configuration supports a braked towing capacity of approximately 907 kg (2,000 lbs), enough for small trailers or jet skis.

Comfort & Cabin

The cabin is designed for family logistics, featuring a sliding second row that makes accessing the third row easier for children. The EX trim's power-adjustable driver’s seat and premium soft-touch dashboard elevate the interior feel beyond a standard commuter car. Large windows and an intuitive layout ensure the cabin feels airy, while the dedicated rear cooling vents are a vital inclusion for passenger comfort during the peak UAE summer months.

Safety

Standard safety for the 2016 EX trim includes a comprehensive suite of airbags, Electronic Stability Control, and Hill-start Assist Control, which is particularly useful on inclined parking ramps. The model achieved high safety marks in international testing, featuring a reinforced high-strength steel body structure. The American spec often includes a rearview camera and rear parking sensors as standard, providing extra confidence when navigating busy supermarket car parks.

The bottom line

This Sorento EX is an ideal choice for a budget-conscious family needing seven seats and the reliability of a well-established service network. It represents a practical opportunity to own a modern-generation SUV that balances features with low everyday running costs.
