Summary

This 2016 Range Rover Sport SVR represents the mechanical peak of the L494 generation, featuring the high-output supercharged V8 and an active exhaust system that defines its presence on UAE roads. As a Canadian-spec vehicle in a timeless black finish, it offers a distinct alternative to local units while maintaining the heavy-duty performance cooling expected of the SVR trim. With mileage reflecting consistent use across the region, it remains a highly desirable performance SUV for those who prioritize visceral power and road command. In the GCC market, the black exterior ensures a liquid asset status, as it remains one of the most sought-after colors for resale value. The primary ownership consideration for a buyer in the Emirates is ensuring a consistent service history to maintain the advanced air suspension and supercharged powertrain in peak condition.

This Car vs Other 2016 Range Rover Sports

With 162,851 km, this vehicle has covered distance consistent with typical highway-heavy GCC driving patterns, though it is slightly higher than the average for its year. The black exterior is a major advantage in the UAE market, significantly aiding resale liquidity compared to less conventional colors. As a Canadian-spec model, buyers should verify service compatibility, though the SVR's global mechanical standards ensure parts availability remains high across the Gulf.

SVR vs Lower Trims

The SVR is a significant mechanical upgrade over the HSE and Autobiography trims, featuring a tuned 5.0L V8 delivering increased output and a unique Switchable Active Sports Exhaust. Inside, it adds specialized SVR performance seats in Oxford leather and a 19-speaker Meridian audio system that is often an optional extra on lower variants. It also benefits from Terrain Response 2 with a dedicated Dynamic mode for sharpened throttle and suspension response during spirited driving.

Range Rover Sport vs Segment Rivals

The SVR holds a distinct edge over rivals like the BMW X5 M and Porsche Cayenne Turbo by offering genuine off-road hardware including a low-range transfer case and 850mm wading depth. While competitors focus primarily on track performance, the Range Rover Sport retains the ability to handle soft sand and desert terrain with ease. Its upright driving position and iconic silhouette provide a level of visibility and presence that is unmatched in the performance SUV category.

Running Costs & Resale

Real-world fuel consumption averages roughly 18.0 L/100km in mixed driving, which reflects the stop-start nature of city traffic in Dubai or Riyadh. Service intervals are typically required every 12,000 to 15,000 km, with authorized service centers readily available across all major GCC cities including Muscat and Kuwait City. While European performance SUVs experience higher depreciation than Japanese rivals, the SVR trim specifically retains a loyal enthusiast following that stabilizes its value at the 5-year and 10-year marks.

Performance & Capability

The SVR delivers a blistering 0-100 km/h time of 4.7 seconds, allowing for effortless overtaking on fast-moving UAE highways. Equipped with a proper low-range gearbox and electronically-locking differentials, it is one of the few performance SUVs that can transition from the fast lane to a desert weekend without modification. The air suspension provides adjustable ground clearance, ensuring the vehicle can clear obstacles that would stop most road-biased crossovers.

Comfort & Cabin

The cabin is optimized for the GCC climate with a powerful three-zone climate control system and ventilated front seats that are essential for summer driving. The 19-speaker Meridian surround sound provides an immersive audio experience, effectively isolating the interior from road noise during long-distance drives across emirates. Despite its performance focus, it retains a practical five-seat layout with generous cargo space for family trips and premium materials throughout.

Safety

This SVR comes standard with a comprehensive safety suite including Adaptive Xenon headlamps with automatic high beam assist for improved visibility on unlit desert roads. Active safety features such as Blind Spot Monitoring and Emergency Braking are standard, providing essential protection in the high-speed, multi-lane traffic typical of the GCC. The lightweight all-aluminum structure is designed for maximum energy absorption, supported by a full array of front and side curtain airbags.

The bottom line

For the performance enthusiast who needs a daily driver capable of desert excursions, this black SVR offers the perfect blend of exclusivity and proven V8 power at a competitive market entry point.
