Summary

This specific Land Cruiser is a rare find in the GCC market, combining exceptionally low mileage for its age with the top-tier VXR trim level. In a region where these SUVs are typically driven over 20,000 km annually, this car has been used sparingly, making it a prime candidate for a long-term family investment. The black exterior is one of the most sought-after colors for resale in the UAE and Saudi Arabia, ensuring that the vehicle maintains its value much better than regional competitors. As a VXR model, it offers a level of interior luxury and tech that bridges the gap between a rugged off-roader and a premium executive cruiser. It stands out from rivals like the Nissan Patrol by offering a more robust suspension setup and a historical reputation for mechanical bulletproofing that is unmatched. For any GCC buyer, the most important consideration is the peace of mind that comes with Toyota's massive service network and the legendary reliability of this 4.0L V6 powertrain in extreme heat.

This Car vs Other 2016 Land Cruisers

While the average 2016 model in the UAE or Saudi Arabia would typically have clocked over 150,000 km by now, this vehicle sits at just 55,000 km, representing a significantly lower wear-and-tear profile. Most Land Cruisers of this vintage have seen extensive desert use or high-speed inter-city commuting, but the condition and mileage of this unit suggest it has been maintained as a secondary vehicle or a city-focused family car. The black paintwork is a strong resale asset in the local market, often fetching a premium over less traditional colors. Mechanically, a Land Cruiser with such low usage is just entering its prime, offering the next owner another decade of reliable service before major overhauls are even considered. Choosing this lower-mileage example over a higher-mileage 2017 or 2018 model provides a better balance of price and longevity, especially given that the core mechanical architecture remained identical across those years. It is an ideal pick for someone who wants the classic 200-series styling with a nearly new mechanical feel.

VXR vs Lower Trims

The VXR designation is the hallmark of luxury within the Land Cruiser lineup, offering several features that the EXR and GXR trims lack. While lower trims often feel more utilitarian, the VXR introduces premium leather upholstery, upgraded wood-grain trim, and sophisticated climate control systems that are essential for the GCC summer. One of the most significant upgrades in this trim is the advanced infotainment system paired with a superior audio setup and a rear-seat entertainment system that keeps family members engaged on long drives to Salalah or Liwa. You also benefit from enhanced exterior aesthetics, including LED headlights with integrated washers and chrome detailing that identifies it as the flagship variant. From a resale perspective, VXR models remain the most liquid assets in the used car market, as GCC buyers specifically hunt for the 'full-option' badge. Additionally, the inclusion of more sophisticated driver aids and parking sensors makes navigating tight city spaces in Dubai or Riyadh much easier than in the base-spec versions.

Land Cruiser vs Segment Rivals

When compared to its primary rival, the Nissan Patrol, the 2016 Land Cruiser leads in terms of long-term durability and the robustness of its cooling system. While the Patrol might offer a softer highway ride, the Land Cruiser is built on a heavier-duty frame that handles the vibrations of corrugated desert tracks with far more composure. Buyers often choose this over the Chevrolet Tahoe or Ford Expedition because of its superior approach and departure angles, which are vital if you plan any weekend excursions into the dunes. The Toyota also features a massive sub-tank system, giving it a total fuel capacity that outperforms many American rivals, allowing for cross-country trips without constant refueling stops. In the GCC market, the Land Cruiser is not just a car; it is a currency, holding its value better than any German luxury SUV like the BMW X5 or Mercedes GLE. Its ability to maintain cabin coolness even when outside temperatures hit 50°C is a specific engineering feat that makes it the preferred choice for local families.

Running Costs & Resale

Running a 4.0L V6 Land Cruiser in the GCC is surprisingly predictable thanks to the widespread availability of affordable genuine parts. Fuel consumption is manageable, with the V6 offering a more economical profile for city commuting compared to the heavier V8 variants, while still providing ample power for highway overtaking. Service intervals are typically every 5,000 or 10,000 km, and with the most extensive authorized service network in the region, you are never more than a short drive away from a Toyota center in any major GCC city. This model experiences some of the lowest depreciation rates in the global automotive industry; a well-maintained GCC-spec VXR typically retains up to 60-70% of its value even after several years of use. Unlike American-spec imports which struggle with warranty and cooling issues, this GCC-spec vehicle is optimized for the local environment and carries the highest trust rating among local buyers. You can expect significantly lower annual maintenance costs compared to European luxury SUVs, which often require specialized diagnostic tools that are expensive to access outside major hubs.

Performance & Capability

The 271 hp V6 engine is a workhorse designed for longevity and reliable performance under pressure. While it is built for comfort, its off-road capability is genuine, featuring a full-time 4WD system with a low-range transfer case and a locking center differential that allows it to conquer challenging terrain. The ground clearance is among the best in its class at 230 mm, ensuring that the underbody remains protected during desert adventures or when navigating high curbs in urban environments. On the highway, the Land Cruiser offers a commanding view of the road and a stable, heavy feel that inspires confidence at 120 km/h, even during windy conditions on the E11. Its towing capacity is substantial, easily handling boat trailers or caravans for weekend getaways to the coast. The automatic transmission is tuned for smoothness, ensuring that gear changes are almost imperceptible during stop-start traffic in downtown Riyadh or Dubai. This powertrain is famous in the region for its ability to run on standard fuel grades without the sensitivity issues found in high-performance turbocharged engines.

Comfort & Cabin

The interior of the Land Cruiser VXR is designed to be a sanctuary from the harsh outdoor environment of the Middle East. With an 8-seat configuration, it offers massive flexibility for large families, including an adult-friendly third row that can be folded away to create a cavernous boot space. The air conditioning system is arguably the best in the world, featuring multi-zone controls and dedicated vents for all three rows to ensure every passenger remains cool during July heatwaves. High-quality materials cover the touchpoints, and the cabin insulation effectively silences wind noise and road roar during long-distance highway cruises. The VXR trim includes premium touches such as a sunroof that adds a sense of airiness to the cabin and power-adjustable seats that make finding the perfect driving position effortless. Storage is abundant, with a large center console box that is often cool-box equipped in this trim, perfect for keeping drinks chilled on a road trip. Whether you are doing the school run or a cross-border drive to Oman, the cabin remains a quiet and luxurious space.

Safety

Toyota has equipped the Land Cruiser with a comprehensive suite of safety features that align with its 5-star NCAP rating. This VXR model includes a multi-terrain monitor and a 360-degree camera system that is invaluable for avoiding obstacles in the desert and for parking such a large vehicle in tight mall spaces. Active safety is handled by Vehicle Stability Control (VSC) and Traction Control (TRC), which are specifically calibrated to handle the loss of grip on sandy or gravel-covered roads. Multiple airbags provide wrap-around protection for all eight occupants, including side-curtain airbags that cover all three rows. The braking system is reinforced with Electronic Brake-force Distribution (EBD), ensuring the vehicle stops straight and true even when fully loaded with passengers and luggage. Compared to many rivals of the same year, the Land Cruiser's structural integrity is legendary, providing a protective shell that has been proven across decades of use in the world's most demanding environments.

The bottom line

This is a rare opportunity to own a nearly-new 2016 Land Cruiser VXR with incredibly low mileage, offering the perfect blend of GCC-proven reliability and high-end luxury. It is the ideal choice for a savvy buyer who wants a bulletproof family SUV that will hold its value better than almost any other vehicle on the road today.
