Summary

This Range Rover Sport HSE represents a sophisticated entry into the luxury SUV segment, featuring a versatile supercharged V6 that balances urban efficiency with highway performance. Its black exterior remains a top-tier choice for resale value in the GCC, ensuring long-term appeal in the local market. While this is an American-spec vehicle, it provides a high-specification cabin at a more accessible price point compared to local equivalents. The mileage is slightly above average for its year, suggesting consistent highway use that often keeps the mechanical systems in optimal working order. For the buyer who values the prestige of a Range Rover without the V8 running costs, this HSE is an ideal candidate.

This Car vs Other 2017 Range Rover Sports

At 127,800 km, this vehicle has covered more distance than the typical 80,000–100,000 km found on low-use executive examples in the UAE. However, in a region where annual mileage often hits 25,000 km, this remains well within the expected lifecycle for a well-maintained SUV. The black-on-black color combination is the most sought-after configuration in the GCC, providing a distinct resale advantage over less common exterior shades.

HSE vs Lower Trims

The HSE trim offers a significant step up from the base SE, most notably adding a fixed panoramic sunroof and larger 20-inch alloy wheels that enhance its road presence. Inside, the cabin is upgraded with perforated leather upholstery and heated front seats, providing a more refined texture than the standard grained leather. These features, along with the upgraded interior trim, are highly valued by buyers in the used market looking for a premium feel.

Range Rover Sport vs Segment Rivals

Compared to the BMW X5 and Porsche Cayenne, the Range Rover Sport leads with a superior 105-litre fuel tank, making it much better suited for long-distance desert highway drives between emirates. While the Cayenne is more road-biased, the Sport offers significantly more off-road capability and a softer, air-suspended ride quality that excels on the UAE's high-speed motorways. Its presence and lounge-like rear seating offer a level of British refinement that its German rivals rarely match.

Running Costs & Resale

Real-world fuel consumption for the supercharged V6 typically averages around 10.7L/100km, which is efficient for a full-size SUV in GCC traffic. As an American-spec vehicle, it is common to see a higher initial depreciation compared to GCC-spec cars, but it offers better value for the second owner. Service intervals are recommended every 13,000 km or 12 months, and while parts are widely available through the extensive JLR network in the UAE, owners should ensure the cooling system is regularly inspected for local high-temperature suitability.

Performance & Capability

The 340 hp supercharged engine delivers a top speed of 210 km/h, providing effortless overtaking power on fast-moving highways like E11. Standard air suspension allows the vehicle to adapt its height for off-road excursions or high-speed stability, complemented by Land Rover's renowned Terrain Response system. With a maximum wading depth of 850mm and permanent four-wheel drive, it remains one of the most capable luxury vehicles for weekend desert exploration.

Comfort & Cabin

The five-seat layout provides ample legroom for all passengers, with a cabin insulated to the highest standards against the GCC summer heat. The HSE trim's perforated leather seats are designed for breathability, and the dual-zone climate control system is powerful enough to maintain a cool environment even in peak July temperatures. A 10.2-inch Touch Pro infotainment system serves as the central hub for navigation and media, ensuring every long drive is connected and comfortable.

Safety

Standard safety equipment on this HSE includes Autonomous Emergency Braking and a Lane Departure Warning system to assist during long highway commutes. For navigating the tight parking spaces of Dubai and Abu Dhabi, the 360° parking sensors and rearview camera provide essential visibility. The vehicle is also equipped with comprehensive stability control systems, including Roll Stability Control, specifically tuned to keep the car composed on loose sand or gravel surfaces.

The bottom line

This 2017 Range Rover Sport HSE is a perfect match for a professional seeking a high-presence, luxury SUV at a significant discount compared to local-spec models, while still benefitting from a high-demand color and premium trim features.
