Summary

This 2017 Nissan Patrol LE Platinum represents the high-water mark for naturally aspirated V8 luxury in the GCC market, combining bulletproof reliability with a commanding road presence. As the top-tier Platinum trim, it delivers a refined interior experience that stands up to modern rivals while offering the legendary durability that has made the Patrol a regional icon. Its black exterior is one of the most sought-after colors for resale in the UAE, ensuring it holds its value better than almost any other vehicle in the full-size SUV segment. For the GCC buyer, this is the definitive choice for a vehicle that can transition seamlessly from a high-speed highway commute between emirates to a weekend family adventure in the desert. The 5.6-litre V8 provides effortless overtaking power, a crucial safety asset on fast-moving regional motorways.

This Car vs Other 2017 Nissan Patrols

With 188,000 km on the odometer, this Patrol has been driven approximately 23,500 km per year, which aligns perfectly with the higher annual averages typical for highway-heavy driving in the GCC. The black exterior is a primary value driver in the local market, consistently fetching higher prices at resale compared to niche colors. Mechanically, these V8 units are known for their extreme longevity in high-temperature environments, making this a stable long-term purchase compared to higher-mileage alternatives.

LE PLATINUM vs Lower Trims

The LE Platinum trim is a significant step up from the SE and lower LE variants, adding premium features essential for the GCC climate, such as ventilated front seats and a powerful three-zone climate control system with rear-seat vents. It also includes the highly coveted 360-degree Around View Monitor, a 13-speaker Bose premium audio system, and rear-seat entertainment screens that are rarely found on lower trims. Furthermore, the Platinum grade benefits from 20-inch machine-cut alloy wheels and advanced safety tech like Blind Spot Warning and Intelligent Cruise Control.

Nissan Patrol vs Segment Rivals

The Nissan Patrol leads its primary rival, the Toyota Land Cruiser, in interior space and on-road refinement, offering a noticeably larger cabin for eight passengers. Its 140-litre fuel tank is one of the largest in the segment, providing a significant range advantage for long cross-border drives across the GCC. While the Lexus LX offers similar luxury, the Patrol maintains a more robust service network and lower spare part costs across the entire region.

Running Costs & Resale

Real-world fuel consumption for the 5.6-litre V8 typically averages between 16–18 L/100km in mixed GCC conditions, which is standard for a heavy body-on-frame SUV. Authorized service centers for Nissan are ubiquitous across the UAE, Saudi Arabia, and Oman, with standard service intervals recommended every 10,000 km. The Patrol remains one of the slowest-depreciating vehicles in the Middle East, typically retaining a much higher percentage of its value at the five-year mark compared to European luxury SUVs.

Performance & Capability

The 400 hp V8 engine delivers a tree-tugging 560 Nm of torque, allowing this 2.7-ton SUV to reach 100 km/h in approximately 7.5 seconds. Its heavy-duty All-Wheel Drive system features selectable modes for sand, rock, and snow, making it exceptionally capable for desert dune bashing. The Hydraulic Body Motion Control (HBMC) suspension system, standard on this grade, drastically reduces body roll during highway cornering while providing maximum articulation for off-road obstacles.

Comfort & Cabin

The cabin is designed for eight-passenger comfort, featuring genuine leather upholstery and a factory-fitted refrigerator in the center console to keep beverages cold during the peak of summer. Thick acoustic glass and extensive insulation provide a quiet sanctuary from the heat and wind noise during long desert highway stretches. The multi-zone A/C is specifically tuned for the 45°C+ temperatures of the Middle East, ensuring even the third-row passengers remain cool.

Safety

This LE Platinum is equipped with Nissan’s full Safety Shield suite, including Forward Collision Warning, Intelligent Brake Assist, and Backup Collision Intervention. These systems are particularly valuable for navigating the fast-paced traffic of the E11 and other major GCC arterial roads. Standard 360-degree cameras and parking sensors make maneuvering this large SUV in tight city spaces significantly safer and easier than its rivals.

The bottom line

For a buyer seeking a prestigious, high-specification V8 that is as capable in the dunes as it is at a valet stand, this GCC-spec LE Platinum is the most reliable investment in its class today.
