Summary

This specific GXR offers a rare balance of significantly low mileage for its age, making it a standout choice for a buyer looking for long-term reliability in the GCC. Finished in white, it occupies the most desirable color bracket for local resale, ensuring it remains a liquid asset in the used market. With its robust six-cylinder engine, this model is specifically engineered to thrive in extreme temperatures and the stop-start traffic of major cities like Dubai and Riyadh. It stands out from rivals by offering an unmatched service network and parts availability that spans across every corner of the UAE, Saudi Arabia, and Oman. This is a vehicle designed for the regional lifestyle, perfectly suited for families who demand a mix of daily school runs and weekend desert expeditions. For a buyer in the Gulf, the peace of mind provided by a GCC-spec powertrain in this condition is the single most important consideration for maintaining value.

This Car vs Other 2017 Land Cruisers

While the average GCC annual mileage for a vehicle of this class typically ranges between 20,000 and 25,000 kilometers, this particular SUV has been driven significantly less, averaging under 12,000 kilometers per year. This low usage translates to less wear on the suspension components and the drivetrain, which are often stressed by the heat and long-distance commutes standard in the region. The exterior is finished in white, which is statistically the strongest resale color in the Middle East due to its ability to reflect heat and hide desert dust better than darker shades. Finding a GCC-spec example from this production year with such conservative mileage is increasingly difficult, as most are utilized for high-frequency cross-border travel or heavy family use. This makes this specific listing a premium specimen compared to higher-mileage alternatives currently on the market. It represents a rare opportunity to own a mid-generation model that still feels mechanically fresh.

GXR vs Lower Trims

Stepping up to the GXR trim introduces vital upgrades that GCC buyers prioritize for both comfort and aesthetic presence. Unlike the entry-level EXR, the GXR typically features enhanced interior materials and superior climate control management which is essential for surviving a Gulf summer. You gain functional exterior enhancements like integrated side steps and roof rails that facilitate easier access and extra cargo capacity for family road trips. The cabin experience is significantly elevated with better audio integration and often includes features like a wireless charger and a cool box in the center console—a true necessity for keeping beverages chilled during long drives between emirates. This trim hit the 'sweet spot' for the 2017 model year, providing the luxurious feel of the higher VXR trims skiping the more complex hydraulic suspension systems that can be costly to maintain over time. It offers the exact blend of utility and prestige that local buyers look for when selecting a reliable family cruiser.

Land Cruiser vs Segment Rivals

In the competitive landscape of full-size SUVs, this model is frequently compared to the Nissan Patrol and the Chevrolet Tahoe. While the Patrol offers a powerful V8 in many configurations, this 4.0L V6 option is celebrated for its incredible longevity and lower maintenance cycles, making it the smarter logistical choice for those planning to keep the vehicle for many years. Its all-wheel-drive system is more mechanically simplistic and robust than American rivals like the Tahoe, offering superior confidence when navigating soft sand or gravel tracks. The interior packaging provides an eight-seat configuration that is genuinely adult-friendly in the third row, outclassing many European SUVs that offer 5+2 seating with very cramped rear quarters. Furthermore, the cooling system in this Japanese-engineered icon is widely regarded as the most efficient in the world for handling 45°C+ temperatures, outperforming both American and European competitors in cabin pull-down speeds. It remains the default choice for anyone prioritizing reliability over superficial gadgets.

Running Costs & Resale

Owning this vehicle in the GCC is a lesson in financial prudence, as it boasts one of the lowest annual depreciation rates in the global automotive market, typically losing only 8-10% of its value per year compared to 15-20% for European luxury SUVs. Fuel consumption for the 4.0L V6 is predictable, offering a balanced middle ground for city driving and long-distance cruising on high-octane petrol available at every station. Service intervals are standardized at 10,000 kilometers, and because it is a GCC-spec Toyota, you have access to the most extensive network of authorized service centers and independent specialist garages in every major city across the UAE and Saudi Arabia. Parts are readily available off-the-shelf, ensuring that maintenance downtime is kept to an absolute minimum. At the three-year mark from purchase today, this vehicle will likely retain a higher percentage of its value than almost any other SUV in its segment. It is widely considered 'gold on wheels' in the local used car market due to its legendary reputation for never breaking down.

Performance & Capability

Under the hood sits a 271-horsepower V6 engine that is prized for its torque delivery and legendary durability rather than raw sprint speeds. While its 0-100 km/h time is designed for steady progress, its performance shines when overtaking on the E11 highway or navigating the dunes of Sharjah or the Empty Quarter. The genuine all-wheel-drive system features a low-range transfer case and a locking center differential, providing the mechanical hardware required for serious off-roading that most modern 'crossovers' simply cannot match. With a high ground clearance of 230mm, it easily clears obstacles that would damage the underbody of lesser vehicles. The suspension is tuned specifically for the varied terrain of the region, absorbing the impact of corrugated desert tracks while remaining stable and planted at 120 km/h on the highway. It also offers a respectable towing capacity, making it capable of hauling jet skis or horse trailers with ease. This is a master of all terrains, built to handle the harshest environments on earth without breaking a sweat.

Comfort & Cabin

The interior is a sanctuary from the harsh outdoor heat, featuring an eight-seat layout that accommodates large families without compromise. The air conditioning system is world-class, featuring multi-zone climate control with dedicated vents for the second and third rows to ensure every passenger remains cool during the peak of summer. The GXR cabin is well-insulated from exterior wind noise and road roar, creating a quiet environment for long-distance travel across the desert. High-quality materials are used throughout the touchpoints, designed to withstand the high UV exposure common in the GCC without fading or cracking. The tech suite includes an intuitive infotainment system that manages audio and navigation, complemented by a spacious cargo area even when the third row is in use. Rear-seat passengers benefit from generous legroom, making it an ideal choice for chauffeur-driven commutes or family holidays. It is a cabin that prioritizes ergonomic simplicity and long-term durability over fragile electronics.

Safety

Safety is paramount in a vehicle designed to carry eight people, and this model comes equipped with a comprehensive suite of active and passive systems. It features multiple airbags, including side-curtain protection for all three rows, providing a safety cocoon for the entire family. Stability control and traction control are standard, specifically calibrated to help the driver maintain authority on surfaces ranging from rain-slicked asphalt to loose sand. The anti-lock braking system is supplemented by electronic brakeforce distribution, ensuring flat and controlled stops even when the vehicle is fully loaded with passengers and gear. Sensors and a rear-view camera are essential for a vehicle of this size, making parking in tight mall spaces or urban environments significantly safer and easier. For high-speed highway driving, the robust frame and advanced crumple zones offer peace of mind that few other vehicles in the world can match, having earned top safety ratings in various international markets.

The bottom line

This 2017 GXR is the ideal acquisition for a GCC resident who values mechanical heritage and exceptionally low mileage over modern gimmicks. Its high resale potential and legendary reliability make it a safe harbor for your capital, while its off-road pedigree ensures your weekends are never limited by the pavement.
