Years of designing from the team at Audi has brought us this stunning 2018 Audi RS5. Years of rethinking and reengineering Audi's A5 coupe has turned the RS5 into a high-performance machine, one that Audi draws inspiration from in the Audi 90 Quattro IMSA GTO race cars of the 1980s.
What makes the RS5 stand out is that it packs attitude, Audi has bulged out its fenders over half an inch, dressed its mirrors and grille surround in matte aluminium trim, gloss black side sills to the doors and widened the grille which gets a black honeycomb mesh, at the rear there is an aerodynamic diffuser, large oval exhaust pipes and a black lip spoiler.
Being powered by a 2.9-litre Turbo V6, you get a whole lot of turbocharged boosts to give sensational performance, giving a massive 600NM of torque over a massive rev band – 1,900rpm to 5,000rpm. The point-to-point pace is rapid and more perceptible than its German rivals, maximum torque for over 3,000rpm of the 6,750rpm rev-band makes the new RS5 intergalactically more urgent. Raw stats show the RS5 to be mightily fast! 0-100kms in 3.9 seconds, which is like its rivals but the RS5 is a fraction of the price, all that power goes to all 4 wheels from Audi’s amazing quattro all-wheel drive system, all these rocket-sled sprint times are mostly sorted out by launch control.
The RS5's seven-speed dual-clutch transmission has been replaced by a ZF-supplied eight-speed automatic, this is the same transmission used in the RS7, controlling the temperature and durability of the unit's torque converter, which is 4.5KG lighter and unique to the RS models. Switch to Dynamic mode and the RS5's suspension transforms, it also sharpens throttle response, changes the transmission's shift points, ups the steering effort & cranks up the engine's sound, providing an amazing experience that can’t be matched.
