Summary

This 2018 Hyundai Tucson GLS is an exceptionally well-positioned family crossover for the UAE market, featuring a practical balance of efficiency and space. With 89,335 km, it sits below the regional average for its age, suggesting it has been used primarily for city commuting rather than cross-emirate transit. The White exterior is the most sought-after color in the GCC, offering the best heat reflection during summer and ensuring strong liquidity at resale. As a GLS trim, it provides a more refined cabin experience than the base model, making it a reliable workhorse for small families who value Hyundai’s legendary ease of maintenance. This regional-spec SUV is perfectly adapted for local heat and stop-start traffic, ensuring long-term mechanical composure.

This Car vs Other 2018 Tucsons

In a market where many 2018 models have already crossed the 120,000 km mark, this vehicle’s mileage of 89,335 km represents a significant buying advantage. The White paint is a top-tier choice for the GCC climate, maintaining a higher resale value than darker alternatives. Being a GCC-spec vehicle, it avoids the insurance and warranty complications often found with North American imports.

GLS vs Lower Trims

The GLS trim elevates the ownership experience over the base GL by adding premium touches like cruise control, steering wheel-mounted audio controls, and upgraded upholstery. It typically features improved alloy wheels and chrome exterior accents that provide a more sophisticated look. GCC buyers specifically appreciate the GLS for its better interior materials and added convenience features that make daily commutes through Dubai or Riyadh traffic more comfortable.

Tucson vs Segment Rivals

The Tucson leads rivals like the Kia Sportage and Toyota RAV4 in terms of approachable ownership costs and user-friendly technology. While the RAV4 is often more expensive on the used market, the Tucson offers comparable boot space of 515 litres and a more intuitive dashboard layout. It remains a favorite for GCC families due to its excellent air conditioning performance, which is specifically tuned for the region’s extreme summer heat.

Running Costs & Resale

With a combined fuel consumption of 8.7 L/100km, the Tucson is highly efficient for a 5-seater SUV, making it ideal for the high-mileage lifestyles of the UAE. Service intervals are typically every 10,000 km, supported by one of the most extensive authorized service networks across the GCC, ensuring parts are always affordable and available. It retains approximately 55-60% of its value after five years, performing strongly against European competitors.

Performance & Capability

The 2.0L 4-cylinder engine is tuned for smooth power delivery, reaching 100 km/h in approximately 11.5 seconds. While optimized for city driving, its front-wheel-drive configuration provides a stable and fuel-efficient ride on the E11 and other major regional highways. With 170 km/h top speed and refined gear shifts from the 6-speed automatic transmission, it handles the demands of both suburban runs and highway cruising with ease.

Comfort & Cabin

The cabin is designed for 5 adults, featuring a spacious 515-litre trunk that expands significantly with the rear seats folded. Hyundai’s powerful climate control system includes dedicated rear vents, a critical feature for passenger comfort during GCC summers. Sound insulation is well-balanced for its class, providing a quiet environment that shields occupants from road noise during long-distance desert drives.

Safety

Safety is a priority in the GLS trim, which includes essential systems like ABS with Electronic Brakeforce Distribution (EBD) and Brake Assist. It features multiple airbags and a reinforced chassis that contributed to its high safety ratings in international testing. These systems are particularly beneficial on fast-moving UAE highways, providing peace of mind during heavy traffic or sudden stops.

The bottom line

For a GCC buyer seeking a reliable, low-maintenance SUV with a high-demand resale color and sensible mileage, this Tucson GLS is a strategic and dependable choice.
