Summary

This 2022 Hyundai Tucson represents the top-tier Ultimate trim, offering a premium cabin experience that rivals luxury crossovers at a much more accessible price point. While the grey exterior is a neutral and stable choice for resale in the GCC, the highlight here is the significant technology jump found in this high-spec model compared to the base SE or SEL. With its modern parametric design and advanced driver assistance, it stands out as one of the most futuristic-looking SUVs on UAE roads. For a buyer in the Gulf, the combination of high mileage—typical for a cross-emirate commuter—and the top-spec features makes this a smart value-play for those who prioritize daily comfort over a low odometer reading.

This Car vs Other 2022 Tucsons

With 102,143 km, this vehicle has served as a consistent long-distance runner, which in the GCC often translates to highway miles that are easier on the transmission and brakes than heavy city stop-start traffic. While higher than the global average, this mileage is common for three-year-old SUVs in the region used for daily commutes between cities like Dubai and Abu Dhabi. The grey exterior remains one of the most popular and practical choices for the local climate, helping to maintain its appeal for future resale.

Ultimate vs Lower Trims

The Ultimate trim is a significant step up from the SE and SEL, adding essential GCC comforts like ventilated front seats and a panoramic sunroof that transforms the cabin feel. You also gain the larger 10.25-inch infotainment display with integrated navigation and the superior Bose® premium audio system. Safety is further enhanced with a 360-degree Surround View Monitor and the Blind-Spot View Monitor, which projects a live camera feed into the digital cluster—features rarely found in lower-spec competitors.

Tucson vs Segment Rivals

The Tucson competes directly with the Toyota RAV4 and Kia Sportage, leading the segment in interior design and digital integration. While the RAV4 is often preferred for its rugged brand equity, the Tucson Ultimate offers a more refined, tech-heavy cabin that feels a generation ahead. Its passenger volume and rear legroom are among the most generous in the compact SUV class, making it a better fit for families who prioritize interior space and modern aesthetics.

Running Costs & Resale

The 2.5L engine balances power and economy, typically delivering around 8.5 to 9.0 L/100km in mixed GCC driving conditions. As an American-spec vehicle, it offers a high feature-to-price ratio compared to GCC-spec equivalents, though buyers should note that authorized dealer warranties may not apply and service should be handled by specialized independent centers. Parts are widely available across the UAE due to the model's massive popularity, ensuring that long-term maintenance remains manageable even as the vehicle ages.

Performance & Capability

The 187 hp powertrain is paired with a smooth 8-speed automatic transmission, providing adequate pep for overtaking on fast-moving highways like E11. While it is designed primarily for urban and highway use, its ground clearance allows for confident handling of gravel tracks and weekend beach trips. Drive modes including Smart, Sport, and Eco allow you to tailor the steering and throttle response to suit either the morning school run or a long weekend drive to the Northern Emirates.

Comfort & Cabin

The cabin is centered around a 'twin-cockpit' design that prioritizes driver ergonomics and digital accessibility. The dual 10.25-inch screens are complemented by Multi-Air Mode technology, which diffuses airflow through hidden vents to cool the cabin more gently—a major benefit during peak UAE summer months. Leather-trimmed seating and ambient lighting create a sophisticated environment, while the flat-folding rear seats provide class-leading cargo flexibility for grocery runs or camping gear.

Safety

This Ultimate trim is equipped with Hyundai SmartSense, a comprehensive suite including Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist with Pedestrian Detection and Lane Keeping Assist. The Blind-Spot View Monitor is particularly useful on multi-lane highways, showing a video feed of your blind spot directly in the gauge cluster when the turn signal is activated. Additional features like Rear Cross-Traffic Collision-Avoidance and Safe Exit Warning provide extra peace of mind for families in busy parking environments.

The bottom line

For the buyer who wants the luxury features of a high-end SUV without the high-end price tag, this Tucson Ultimate offers incredible value despite its highway-proven mileage. It is a tech-forward, comfortable daily driver perfectly suited for someone who values a premium cabin experience on their daily commute.
