Subaru has bounced back and it's never been easier to still feel like Colin McRae in a modern Subaru – not with an Impreza but with this 2018 model known solely as the WRX STi, an all-new 2.5-litre turbocharged boxer flat four combined with a six speed manual gives so much driving pleasure. The added bonus with this model is the level’s that the previous owner went to with some tasteful modifications carried out by Subaru Specialists, Sam Performance. While there are only a handful of affordable, high-performance all-wheel-drive compact Saloons to choose from, this Subaru WRX STI ranks among the best for performance, reliability, and affordability. Based on the Impreza saloon, the WRX Sti is blessed with a roomy rear seat, and a comfortable interior making the WRX STi a remarkably versatile sports car.
Big news, though, is that Subaru fiddled with the all-wheel-drive system. Whereas the center differential in the 2017 STI was controlled via mechanical and electronic methods, the 2018 has gone fully digital. Subaru calls it the Multi-Mode Driver Controlled Center Differential (DCCD), and it’s intended to improve the car’s already great handling. Subaru also upgraded the brakes, using yellow-painted monoblock Brembo calipers—six pistons up front and two in the rear—as well as larger cross-drilled vented discs, 13.4 inches in front and 12.8 inches in the back. Best of all, unlike many high-powered performance cars, the WRX STI makes an excellent year-round companion because it is as comfortable being a daily driver as well as being an animal on an enclosed track.
