Summary

This 2019 Ford Explorer is a highly practical seven-seater that remains a staple for GCC families needing reliable everyday transport. As a GCC-spec vehicle, it is purpose-built to handle regional heat with a robust cooling system and a naturally aspirated V6 that offers long-term durability over turbocharged alternatives. In the UAE market, white is the premier choice for resale value, reflecting heat and maintaining a clean look even after long desert highway stretches. With 125,000 km, this Explorer has been driven approximately 25,000 km per year, which is perfectly standard for a family SUV in this region. It represents a balanced opportunity for a buyer seeking a modern-looking, spacious crossover with a proven mechanical track record.

This Car vs Other 2019 Explorers

With 125,000 km on the odometer, this vehicle sits exactly at the average expected mileage for a five-year-old SUV in the GCC, where 20,000–25,000 km per year is the baseline. Unlike American-spec imports often found in this price bracket, this is a genuine GCC-spec unit, ensuring full compatibility with local service centers and a higher resale floor. The white exterior is the most sought-after color in the local used market, offering the best protection against paint fade and heat soak.

BASE vs Lower Trims

As the foundational trim for the 2019 lineup, the Base trim focuses on durability and essential family utility. It includes the 18-inch alloy wheels that provide a more comfortable ride on uneven surfaces compared to the larger wheels on high-spec trims. While it skips the complex air-suspension or panoramic roofs of the Platinum, it retains the essential 8-way power-adjustable driver's seat and the SYNC voice-command system that GCC drivers rely on for hands-free connectivity.

Explorer vs Segment Rivals

The Ford Explorer leads rivals like the Honda Pilot and Toyota Highlander in terms of sheer cargo versatility, offering 595 litres of space even with the third row in use. Its naturally aspirated 3.5L V6 is simpler to maintain in high-temperature environments compared to the turbocharged units found in some newer competitors. Additionally, the Explorer's 18.6-gallon fuel tank provides a significant cruising range for cross-emirate trips between Dubai and Abu Dhabi.

Running Costs & Resale

Real-world fuel consumption for the 3.5L V6 averages around 10.5 L/100km on the highway, though this can rise to 13.5 L/100km in heavy stop-start city traffic in Riyadh or Dubai. Service intervals are recommended every 10,000 km, and with Ford's extensive authorized network across the UAE and Saudi Arabia, parts availability is excellent. The Explorer typically sees a depreciation rate of 12-15% annually, holding its value better than European luxury crossovers due to its reputation for mechanical longevity.

Performance & Capability

The 290 horsepower V6 provides steady, linear acceleration, reaching 100 km/h in approximately 9 seconds, which is more than adequate for safe highway merging. With a ground clearance of 198 mm, it confidently handles gravel tracks and weekend camping spots, though it is primarily designed as a road-biased family crossover. The 6-speed SelectShift automatic is tuned for smooth shifts during long-distance cruising, ensuring passenger comfort on five-hour drives across the border.

Comfort & Cabin

Inside, the three-row configuration easily accommodates seven passengers, with rear air-conditioning vents being a critical standard feature for the GCC summer. The third-row seats fold completely flat into the floor, transforming the cabin into a massive cargo hauler when needed. Cabin insulation is a highlight for this generation, effectively blocking out road noise during high-speed highway travel.

Safety

Safety is anchored by a comprehensive suite of airbags, including front-seat side, side-curtain, and driver’s knee airbags. Standard stability control and traction control systems are specifically calibrated to manage the vehicle's footprint on sandy or rain-slicked roads. A rearview camera is standard, providing essential visibility for navigating tight parking spots in busy urban malls.

The bottom line

This GCC-spec Explorer is the ideal choice for a growing family that prioritizes long-term reliability and high resale potential over unnecessary gadgets. It is a well-maintained, standard-mileage workhorse ready for the unique demands of the Gulf climate.
