Summary

This 2019 Land Rover Discovery SE offers a highly practical entry into the luxury 4x4 market, finished in a resale-strong Grey that is particularly well-suited for the GCC environment. Despite the shift toward smaller engines, this 2.0-litre turbocharged unit delivers a surprising 295 hp, providing ample power for highway overtaking and desert excursions without the heavy fuel consumption of the larger V6. Its seven-seat configuration makes it a premier choice for families who require genuine off-road capability that rivals like the Audi Q7 cannot match. With its GCC specification, this vehicle ensures optimal cooling and hardware longevity for the region's harsh summers. For a buyer looking for a modern, tech-focused SUV that handles the commute and the dunes with equal poise, this Discovery is a compelling option.

This Car vs Other 2019 Discoveries

With 137,349 km on the odometer, this Discovery has been driven roughly 27,000 km per year, which is typical for a family SUV in the UAE where long-distance commuting between emirates is standard. The Grey exterior is one of the most sought-after colors in the local used market, offering better heat deflection than black and higher resale appeal than bolder tones. Choosing this 4-cylinder P300 model provides a modern, efficient alternative to the higher-mileage V6 variants often found at this age.

SE vs Lower Trims

The SE trim is a significant step up from the base S model, introducing essential GCC comforts such as premium grained leather upholstery and upgraded LED headlights with signature daytime running lights. It also features a larger 10-inch Touch Pro infotainment system and a 10-speaker enhanced sound system, providing the premium cabin experience expected in this segment. Crucially for the region, the SE includes power-folding heated mirrors and front parking sensors as standard equipment.

Discovery vs Segment Rivals

The Discovery leads rivals like the Volvo XC90 and Audi Q7 when it comes to genuine off-road versatility, featuring a world-class 900 mm wading depth and Land Rover's specialized Terrain Response system. While competitors are strictly road-biased, the Discovery maintains a full-size seven-seat layout without sacrificing its ability to navigate desert terrain. Its 3,500 kg braked towing capacity also outclasses most luxury crossovers in the same category.

Running Costs & Resale

The 2.0-litre P300 engine offers improved fuel efficiency in stop-start city traffic compared to the older supercharged V6, with real-world GCC consumption averaging around 9.6 L/100km. Service intervals are typically every 13,000 km or 12 months, and Land Rover’s extensive authorized service network across the UAE, Saudi Arabia, and Oman ensures easy maintenance. While Land Rovers experience higher depreciation than Japanese rivals, the Discovery SE maintains a loyal following in the GCC, typically retaining approximately 50-55% of its value after five years.

Performance & Capability

Despite its efficiency, the 295 hp engine pushes this SUV from 0-100 km/h in approximately 7.7 seconds, ensuring confident performance on fast-moving highways like E11. The permanent all-wheel-drive system works in tandem with selectable terrain modes for sand, grass, and gravel, making it perfectly suited for weekend trips to the dunes or mountains. The air suspension provides adjustable ground clearance, allowing you to raise the vehicle for obstacles or lower it for easier passenger loading.

Comfort & Cabin

The cabin is designed for GCC family life, featuring dual-zone automatic climate control with dedicated vents for the rear rows to ensure all seven passengers stay cool during peak summer. The fixed panoramic sunroof fills the interior with light while utilizing power blinds to block out intense midday sun. With the third row folded, the boot offers a massive cargo area, and the 12-way power-adjustable front seats provide excellent support for long-distance cross-border drives.

Safety

Safety is comprehensive, headlined by a 5-star Euro NCAP rating and a suite of active technologies including Emergency Braking and Lane Keep Assist. For GCC highway driving, the standard Park Package includes a 360-degree parking aid and Rear Traffic Monitor to navigate tight spaces and fast-moving traffic. The vehicle is also equipped with multiple airbags and electronic stability control tuned for both high-speed tarmac and loose sand surfaces.

The bottom line

This GCC-spec Discovery SE is the ideal match for a family that needs a luxury daily driver capable of handling the UAE's diverse landscape. It offers the perfect balance of modern tech, seven-seat practicality, and genuine off-road heritage.
