Summary

This specific diesel-powered workhorse is a rare find in the current market, balancing a legendary 4.5L V8 powertrain with a highly practical five-door body style. Its mileage is perfectly aligned with the typical long-distance usage patterns seen in the GCC, suggesting it has been driven as intended on the open roads between cities. The grey exterior is a sophisticated choice that resists the appearance of desert dust while maintaining excellent resale appeal in a region that values neutral, heat-reflective tones. As a nine-seater, it offers unparalleled utility for large families or commercial transport that most modern SUVs simply cannot match. This vehicle stands out because it retains the mechanical purity and ruggedness that the Land Cruiser 70 series is famous for, free from overly complex electronics. For a buyer in the GCC, the primary consideration is the unmatched reliability of the 4.5L diesel engine, which is built to survive the harshest environments while remaining easy to service at any corner of the peninsula.

This Car vs Other 2020 Land Cruiser 70s

With a mileage of 123,950 km, this vehicle sits comfortably within the expected range for a four-year-old utility vehicle in the GCC, where 30,000 km per year is the standard for highway-heavy lifestyles. Many similar models from this year have been relegated to heavy site work, but this example shows the characteristic care of a vehicle used for prioritized transport. The Grey exterior provides a professional and rugged look that is highly sought after in the secondary market, often commanding a quicker sale than more common white units. Being the five-door Hard Top variant, it offers significantly more daily usability than the more common three-door short-wheelbase versions found in the 2020 inventory. This balance of age and usage ensures the mechanical components, particularly the heavy-duty suspension and manual gearbox, are well-settled and ready for their next several hundred thousand kilometers.

HARD TOP vs Lower Trims

Choosing the five-door Hard Top trim brings a massive leap in functional space and passenger capacity compared to the standard pickup or three-door wagons. This trim is specifically engineered for high-occupancy transport, featuring a unique longitudinal seating arrangement in the rear that allows it to carry nine or more passengers comfortably. Unlike lower-spec work trucks, this variant includes more refined interior carpeting and trim finishes that make it suitable for family duty rather than just industrial use. You also benefit from the extended wheelbase, which provides a significantly more stable ride on the high-speed motorways of the UAE and Saudi Arabia. The cabin climate control is also optimized for the larger interior volume, ensuring that even passengers in the very rear remain cool during the peak of summer.

Land Cruiser 70 vs Segment Rivals

The Land Cruiser 70 exists in a category of its own, but it is most often cross-shopped with the Nissan Patrol Super Safari and the Jeep Wrangler. While the Patrol offers more interior luxury, the Land Cruiser’s 4.5L V8 Diesel engine provides superior low-end torque for heavy towing and soft-sand recovery that petrol rivals struggle to match. Its fuel tank capacity is designed for trans-continental journeys, allowing for massive range between fill-ups—a vital feature for those traveling through the Empty Quarter or between distant GCC capitals. The simplicity of its leaf-spring rear suspension and solid axles makes it far more durable than the independent suspension setups found on more modern crossovers. Furthermore, the Land Cruiser 70 maintains the highest floor-to-ceiling height in this segment, facilitating the transport of bulky gear or ensuring ample headroom for nine passengers.

Running Costs & Resale

Running costs for this diesel V8 are remarkably predictable, as the engine is designed for high-mileage durability with straightforward maintenance requirements. In GCC city traffic, the diesel provides better fuel efficiency than many petrol-swilling equivalents, while on the highway, it settles into a steady, economical rhythm. Service intervals are standard for the region, and since Toyota has the most extensive service network in the Middle East, you can find genuine parts and expert technicians in almost every town from Muscat to Kuwait City. The depreciation profile is perhaps the best in the world; this model is famous for holding up to 80-85% of its value even after several years of use. Because this is a non-GCC spec variant, buyers should note that while it remains compatible with local diesel grades and mechanical expertise, a third-party warranty is recommended for total peace of mind. The sheer demand for these vehicles in the global export market ensures that your resale value remains protected by a floor of international demand.

Performance & Capability

The heart of this machine is the 4.5-litre V8 diesel engine, which is internationally renowned for its ability to run for decades in extreme heat without complaint. The manual transmission offers the driver total control over the power delivery, which is essential when navigating steep dunes or mud-slicked wadis. With a proper low-range transfer case and a manual four-wheel-drive selector, this car provides a mechanical connection to the terrain that modern electronic systems cannot replicate. Its ground clearance is among the best in the SUV class, allowing you to clear obstacles that would stop a luxury SUV in its tracks. The towing capacity is substantial, making it the preferred choice for those hauling horse trailers, boats, or heavy desert camping setups. Even when fully loaded with nine passengers and luggage, the V8 torque ensures that highway overtaking remains effortless and safe.

Comfort & Cabin

Inside, the emphasis is on space and functional comfort, designed to withstand the rigors of the GCC climate. The air conditioning system is legendary, specifically engineered to drop cabin temperatures rapidly even after the vehicle has been parked in 50°C heat. The nine-seat configuration makes this an incredible family vehicle for weekend adventures, allowing extended family or friends to travel together in a single car. The grey fabric upholstery is chosen for its durability and its ability to remain cool to the touch, a major advantage over leather in the desert summer. Large windows provide excellent visibility for all passengers, making long drives across the scenic landscapes of the Al Hajar mountains more enjoyable. While the cabin is focused on utility, the ergonomics are clear and simple, ensuring that every control is within easy reach of the driver even when wearing gloves.

Safety

Safety in the Land Cruiser 70 is built into its very foundation, starting with a high-strength steel ladder-frame chassis that provides a protective cocoon for all occupants. The driving position is exceptionally high, offering a commanding view of the road which is a significant safety advantage on the fast-paced multi-lane highways of Dubai and Riyadh. Standard features include an Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) that has been tuned for both asphalt and loose gravel, ensuring stable stopping power regardless of the surface. The manual drivetrain allows for effective engine braking, which is a key safety component when descending steep mountain passes or navigating sand dunes. Dual front airbags are standard, and the vehicle’s sheer mass provides an inherent level of protection in multi-vehicle scenarios. Unlike many modern SUVs, the over-engineered cooling system prevents engine overheating during long summer drives, ensuring you are never left stranded in a hazardous roadside situation.

The bottom line

This 2020 Hard Top is the perfect acquisition for a buyer who prioritizes mechanical longevity and massive passenger capacity over fleeting tech gadgets. It represents one of the most stable automotive investments in the GCC market, offering a level of rugged utility that is increasingly hard to find in such clean condition.
