Summary

This 2021 Explorer ST is a high-performance family SUV that offers a significant power advantage over its rivals, delivering 400 horsepower for effortless highway overtaking. At 5 years old with 78,500 km, its mileage sits below the typical GCC average for a vehicle of this age, indicating it has been driven conservatively. The silver exterior is a top-tier choice for the region, offering the best heat reflection during summer months and excellent resale liquidity in the UAE market. Built for long-distance comfort, it serves as the perfect bridge between a practical 7-seater and a sport-tuned weekend tourer.

This Car vs Other 2021 Explorers

With 78,500 km on the clock, this ST has covered roughly 15,700 km per year, which is well below the 20,000–25,000 km annual average typically seen in the GCC. Silver remains one of the most sought-after colors in the local used market due to its ability to hide desert dust and maintain a cooler cabin temperature. As a GCC-spec vehicle, it avoids the insurance and warranty complications often associated with American imports common in this segment.

ST vs Lower Trims

The ST is a major mechanical step up from the Limited and XLT trims, swapping the 4-cylinder engine for a potent 3.0L twin-turbo V6. It adds essential GCC luxury features including ventilated front seats for the summer and a 360-degree camera for easier parking of this large SUV. You also benefit from the sport-tuned suspension and a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster that isn't found on the base models.

Explorer vs Segment Rivals

The Explorer ST leads the Toyota Highlander and Honda Pilot in pure performance, offering nearly 100 more horsepower than its closest Japanese competitors. Its rear-wheel-drive based architecture provides a more balanced driving feel on high-speed UAE highways compared to front-wheel-drive rivals. Additionally, the ST features a dedicated Terrain Management System that handles sand and gravel transitions better than standard road-biased crossovers.

Running Costs & Resale

Expect a real-world combined fuel consumption of approximately 11.7 L/100km, with highway cruising dropping closer to 10 L/100km on long trips across the Emirates. Authorized Ford service centers are widely available through Al Tayer in the UAE and major distributors across Saudi Arabia and Kuwait, ensuring easy parts access. The ST trim holds its value better than the base models in the GCC due to its niche appeal among enthusiasts and its high level of standard equipment.

Performance & Capability

The 400 hp V6 engine allows for a 0-100 km/h sprint of just 5.5 seconds, which is remarkably fast for a 7-seat SUV. The Intelligent 4WD system and 10-speed automatic transmission are tuned for smooth power delivery, whether you're navigating stop-start city traffic or cruising at 140 km/h. With a braked towing capacity of approximately 2,540 kg, it is also fully capable of hauling jet skis or small trailers for weekend getaways.

Comfort & Cabin

The cabin is designed for the GCC climate, featuring a powerful tri-zone climate control system with dedicated vents for all three rows. Perforated leather seats with ventilation ensure the driver and front passenger stay cool even during August afternoons. The flexible 7-seat layout includes a power-folding third row, making it easy to switch between maximum passenger capacity and increased cargo space for airport runs.

Safety

This ST comes equipped with the full Ford Co-Pilot360 suite, featuring Blind Spot Information System (BLIS) which is vital for multi-lane highway driving. Adaptive Cruise Control and Lane-Keeping Assist help reduce driver fatigue during long desert drives between cities. The vehicle also includes 360-degree cameras and Pre-Collision Assist with Automatic Emergency Braking to provide maximum protection for your family.

The bottom line

This Explorer ST is the ideal choice for a GCC family man who refuses to trade performance for practicality, offering a well-maintained, lower-mileage example of Ford’s most powerful SUV.
