Summary

This 2021 Toyota Fortuner EXR is a definitive choice for GCC buyers who prioritize bulletproof reliability and practical family transport. With mileage sitting comfortably around the regional average for a three-year-old vehicle, it offers a significant saving over new models while retaining Toyota's legendary durability. The black exterior is a high-demand choice in the local market, ensuring it stays desirable when it comes time to trade in. As a body-on-frame SUV, it handles the unique combination of high-speed UAE highways and weekend desert excursions better than almost any monocoque rival. For a buyer seeking a no-nonsense seven-seater with the strongest support network in the region, this listing is a standout opportunity.

This Car vs Other 2021 Fortuners

At 63,259 km, this vehicle has been driven approximately 21,000 km per year, which is perfectly aligned with the typical GCC usage pattern of 20,000–25,000 km. Unlike high-mileage examples often found in the secondary market, this car remains within the prime window of its mechanical lifespan. The black paintwork is a top-tier resale color in the UAE and wider Gulf, typically commanding a faster sale and better value retention than niche colors.

EXR vs Lower Trims

The EXR trim serves as the essential entry point into the Fortuner's 4WD lineup, providing the critical hardware that GCC buyers demand. While it focuses on durability with high-quality fabric seating, it does not skip the essentials, featuring an 8-inch touchscreen with Bluetooth, cruise control, and a 6-speaker audio system as standard. It avoids the complexity of higher trims, offering lower long-term maintenance costs while maintaining the same rugged chassis and 4x4 capabilities as the VXR.

Fortuner vs Segment Rivals

The Fortuner is frequently cross-shopped with the Mitsubishi Pajero and Ford Everest. It leads the segment in regional parts availability and authorized service center density, ensuring you are never far from support in the UAE, Saudi Arabia, or Oman. While the Pajero offers a monocoque design, the Fortuner’s body-on-frame construction—shared with the Hilux—provides superior long-term durability for those who actually intend to venture off-road.

Running Costs & Resale

Real-world fuel consumption for the 2.7L engine typically ranges from 12.0L/100km in city traffic to approximately 9.5L/100km on long highway stretches between Emirates. Service intervals are standardized at 10,000 km at authorized Al Futtaim or regional centers, with a major service usually occurring every 40,000 km. The Fortuner boasts one of the lowest depreciation rates in the GCC, typically losing only 8–10% of its value annually, far outperforming its American and European competitors.

Performance & Capability

With a verified 279 mm of ground clearance, this SUV is built to clear obstacles that would stop most crossovers. The 2.7L engine produces 164 hp and is paired with a selectable part-time 4WD system, allowing you to switch between fuel-efficient rear-wheel drive for city commutes and high-traction 4WD for sand or gravel. Its 80-liter fuel tank is specifically suited for long-distance desert highway drives, providing ample range between stops.

Comfort & Cabin

The cabin is configured for seven passengers, featuring a versatile folding third row that is essential for larger GCC families. A powerful air conditioning system with dedicated rear cooling vents is standard, ensuring all three rows remain comfortable during the extreme summer heat. Acoustic glass and improved insulation in the 2021 model year provide a quieter highway experience during long cross-border drives.

Safety

The 2021 EXR comes equipped with a comprehensive safety package, including seven airbags (front, side, curtain, and driver-knee) to protect all occupants. Standard electronic aids include Vehicle Stability Control (VSC) and Traction Control (TRC), which are vital for maintaining composure on sandy highway shoulders. It also features a Tyre Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) and ISOFIX child seat anchors, making it a responsible choice for family logistics.

The bottom line

For the pragmatist who needs a reliable 7-seater that won't lose its value, this GCC-spec Fortuner is the safest investment in the used SUV market today.
