Summary

This 2021 Toyota Land Cruiser VXR represents the final evolution of the legendary V8-powered 200 Series, a model highly coveted in the GCC for its unmatched mechanical durability. Finished in White, the region's most popular resale color, this VXR trim offers the flagship experience with superior suspension and luxury features that basic trims lack. With 117,000 km, it sits right at the expected average for a four-year-old GCC workhorse, having likely spent its life on high-speed desert highways where these engines thrive. It remains the gold standard for large families needing a vehicle that can transition from city school runs to demanding desert expeditions without hesitation. For a GCC buyer, this is the safest long-term investment in the SUV market, combining prestige with the highest possible value retention.

This Car vs Other 2021 Land Cruisers

At 117,000 km, this vehicle’s mileage is exactly in line with the GCC average of 25,000–30,000 km per year, indicating typical highway use rather than harsh stop-start city wear. The White exterior is the single strongest color for resale in the local market, offering the best heat reflection for the summer and the highest demand among used buyers.

VXR vs Lower Trims

The VXR is the flagship of the 200 Series, adding the sophisticated Adaptive Variable Suspension (AVS) and the 14-speaker JBL Synthesis audio system which lower trims like the GXR lack. GCC buyers will particularly value the VXR-specific interior upgrades, including higher-grade leather, ventilated front seats, and the full multi-terrain monitor system that makes navigating tight urban spaces and steep dunes significantly easier.

Land Cruiser vs Segment Rivals

The Land Cruiser leads the Nissan Patrol and Chevrolet Tahoe in long-range capability thanks to its standard 138-litre dual-tank system, essential for cross-border GCC travel. While rivals might offer more recent tech, the Land Cruiser’s legendary V8 reliability and the sheer density of the Toyota service network across the UAE and Saudi Arabia make it the more practical choice for remote area travel.

Running Costs & Resale

The 5.7L V8 is a robust but thirsty engine, averaging roughly 15.7 L/100km in mixed GCC driving conditions. However, this is offset by the best resale value in the region; a Land Cruiser typically retains 10-15% more of its value after three years compared to European luxury SUVs. With authorized Toyota service centers available in every major city across the GCC, parts are affordable and maintenance is straightforward.

Performance & Capability

The 362 hp V8 provides effortless torque for highway overtaking and heavy-duty towing, paired with a full-time 4WD system and a low-range transfer case. Its body-on-frame construction and 225mm of ground clearance allow it to handle deep sand and rocky wadis with a level of durability monocoque rivals cannot match. Whether you are cruising at 140 km/h on the E11 or exploring the Liwa dunes, the VXR remains exceptionally composed.

Comfort & Cabin

Configured as a true 8-seater, the cabin is built to withstand the extreme GCC climate with a powerful four-zone climate control system and dedicated rear cooling vents. The VXR features a factory-fitted cool box in the center console and ventilated seats, ensuring passenger comfort during peak summer months. Acoustic glass and extensive insulation keep the interior quiet, even at high cruising speeds on desert roads.

Safety

The 2021 VXR comes equipped with the full Toyota Safety Sense suite, including Pre-Collision System with pedestrian detection and Dynamic Radar Cruise Control for fatigue-free highway driving. Safety in fast-moving multi-lane traffic is enhanced by Blind Spot Monitoring and a 360-degree camera system. With 10 airbags as standard, it provides one of the most comprehensive safety envelopes in the full-size SUV segment.

The bottom line

For the buyer who wants the ultimate V8 Land Cruiser before the era of smaller turbo engines, this VXR is a perfectly spec'd example with the right color and local regional pedigree.
