Toyota Land Cruiser VXR

Highlights

• Low-range transfer case with locking differentials
• Extensive GCC authorised service network

Summary

This 2021 Land Cruiser VXR represents the final model year of the legendary 200 Series, powered by the definitive 5.7-litre V8 engine that long-term GCC owners still swear by. With mileage significantly below the 100,000 km typical for a 5-year-old SUV in this region, it offers a rare combination of mechanical peak and long-term resale potential. The Grey exterior is a resilient, professional choice that holds up well against desert dust and maintains high demand in the used market. As the top-tier VXR trim, it bridges the gap between rugged off-road capability and executive luxury, making it the most versatile vehicle for life in the Emirates. For any buyer seeking the last of the big-displacement V8s, this specific listing is a highly logical choice.

This Car vs Other 2021 Land Cruisers

At 72,900 km, this vehicle has been driven approximately 14,500 km per year, which is well below the GCC average of 20,000 to 25,000 km for a family SUV. This lower-than-expected usage means significantly less wear on the suspension and drivetrain, key components for a car this age. The Grey finish is a strong resale asset in the local market, providing a modern alternative to the common White while staying easier to maintain than Black.

VXR vs Lower Trims

The VXR trim is a significant step up from the GXR, adding essential GCC luxuries like ventilated front seats and a premium 14-speaker JBL audio system. It also includes the Multi-Terrain Monitor with a 360-degree camera, which is indispensable for navigating tight parking in Dubai or judging obstacles during weekend desert drives. Furthermore, the VXR features higher-quality leather upholstery and an upgraded suspension system for better highway stability.

Land Cruiser vs Segment Rivals

Compared to the Nissan Patrol, the Land Cruiser offers legendary parts availability and a more extensive service network across the entire GCC, including smaller towns. While rivals like the Chevrolet Tahoe offer more total length, the Land Cruiser leads in specialized off-road hardware and a 138-litre dual fuel tank system designed for long-distance cross-border trips. Its reliability in extreme summer heat remains the industry benchmark.

Running Costs & Resale

The 5.7-litre V8 is built for durability, with real-world combined fuel consumption averaging around 15.7 L/100km. Service intervals are typically every 10,000 km, supported by a massive network of authorized centers from Abu Dhabi to Muscat. This specific model holds its value exceptionally well, often retaining over 65% of its original price even after five years, outperforming almost every European rival in the SUV segment.

Performance & Capability

The 362 hp V8 provides a smooth, effortless 0-100 km/h sprint in 7.0 seconds, offering confident overtaking power on fast-moving highways like E11. Its true strength lies in the 530 Nm of torque and a dedicated low-range transfer case, allowing it to conquer soft dunes that stop lighter crossovers. With a high ground clearance of 225 mm, it is equally capable of deep desert exploration and navigating seasonal rain floods.

Comfort & Cabin

The 8-seat cabin is designed for large families, featuring a powerful four-zone climate control system with 28 vents to ensure every passenger stays cool in 45-degree heat. A built-in cool box in the center console keeps drinks chilled during long road trips, while acoustic glass insulates the interior from wind noise at highway speeds. The second and third rows offer flexible folding options to accommodate everything from grocery hauls to camping gear.

Safety

Standard safety features on this VXR trim include the Toyota Safety Sense suite, featuring a Pre-Collision System with pedestrian detection and Lane Departure Alert. For high-speed GCC highway driving, the Blind Spot Monitor and Rear Cross-Traffic Alert provide vital situational awareness. The vehicle is also equipped with a comprehensive array of airbags, including side-curtain and knee protection, ensuring peace of mind for family transport.

The bottom line

This is the ideal purchase for a GCC resident who wants the reliability and power of the final V8 Land Cruiser with the benefit of below-average mileage. It is a bulletproof investment that serves as both a luxury family commuter and a world-class off-roader.
