Toyota Prado VXL DIESEL ENGINE 4 CYLINDER BLACK WITH BLACK

Highlights

• Genuine off-road rated
• Lowest depreciation in class
• 5-Star NCAP safety rating

Summary

This specific Toyota Prado represents a rare and highly sought-after diesel variant in the GCC, offering a unique blend of massive torque and superior fuel efficiency for long-range cruising. With such low mileage on the odometer, this vehicle is barely past its initial break-in period, a significant advantage in a market where these SUVs often clock double or triple this distance annually. The black exterior is a perennial favorite for resale value in the region, ensuring the car remains a liquid asset should you decide to upgrade later. As a TXL-2 trim, it bridges the gap between rugged utility and modern cabin comfort perfectly, providing the necessary tech for city driving without sacrificing its legendary durability. For a buyer in the GCC, this is the ultimate cross-border cruiser, capable of handling the Riyadh-to-Dubai highway with fewer fuel stops than its petrol counterparts while retaining the prestige of a modern Japanese SUV. It stands out as a sensible yet powerful investment for families who prioritize reliability and off-road readiness above all else.

This Car vs Other 2021 Prados

When comparing this specific unit to other 2021 models currently available in the GCC, the first thing that stands out is the exceptionally low mileage. While the average Toyota Prado in this region typically covers between 20,000 to 25,000 km per year, this vehicle has covered significantly less than that total in its entire lifespan, making it a 'fresh' find in the used market. The black exterior is one of the top three colors for resale strength in the UAE and Saudi Arabia, providing a clear advantage over niche colors that may sit on the market longer. Being a Japanese spec vehicle, it has been maintained to high standards, though buyers should note it features the efficient 2.8L diesel engine which is prized for its longevity and low-end grunt. This combination of low usage and a high-demand color palette makes it a premier choice for those looking for a near-new experience without the first-year depreciation hit. It is a mechanically sound choice that has avoided the heavy-duty wear often seen on 4x4s of this age.

TXL-2 vs Lower Trims

Moving up to the TXL-2 trim level brings a significant suite of upgrades that GCC buyers find essential for both daily comfort and weekend utility. Unlike the base TX trims, the TXL-2 often includes enhanced interior materials and a more sophisticated infotainment interface that integrates better with modern smartphones. You also benefit from improved exterior aesthetics, including upgraded alloy wheels and chrome accents that give it a more premium presence on the road. The inclusion of dual-zone climate control is a major step up from lower variants, ensuring that the driver and front passenger can navigate the intense summer heat at their own preferred temperatures. Furthermore, the TXL-2 typically features improved sound insulation, making those long highway stretches between emirates much quieter than in the entry-level models. It is the 'sweet spot' in the lineup, offering the luxury feel of the VXL without the much higher price tag associated with the top-tier leather and air suspension packages.

Prado vs Segment Rivals

The Toyota Prado continues to dominate its segment against rivals like the Mitsubishi Pajero and the Ford Everest, primarily due to its unrivaled balance of off-road hardware and on-road manners. While the Pajero is a stalwart of the region, the Prado’s 2.8L diesel engine offers a more modern torque delivery and better fuel economy for those long-distance desert trips or cross-country drives to Oman. Compared to the Ford Everest, the Prado boasts a much wider authorized service network across the entire GCC, ensuring that whether you are in a major city like Riyadh or a remote area, parts and expertise are always within reach. The Prado also leads the segment in terms of cabin cooling efficiency, a critical factor during the July and August heatwaves where Toyota’s AC systems are legendary for their performance. Its 7-seat configuration is also more adult-friendly in the third row compared to many mid-sized crossovers that try to compete in this space. Ultimately, the Prado wins on the 'peace of mind' factor, which is the most valuable currency for drivers in this part of the world.

Running Costs & Resale

Running a 2.8L diesel Prado in the GCC is remarkably cost-effective, especially for high-mileage users who frequent the inter-city highways. You can expect a combined fuel consumption of roughly 7.5 to 8.5 liters per 100km, which is significantly better than the V6 petrol variants, providing a much longer range on a single tank. Toyota’s authorized service centers are the most prevalent in the region, with locations in every major town across the UAE, KSA, and Kuwait, keeping maintenance simple and relatively affordable. The depreciation rate for a Prado is the lowest in its class, typically losing only 8-10% of its value annually compared to 15% or more for European luxury SUVs. This means that after three years of ownership, your return on investment is substantially higher than almost any other vehicle in the segment. Parts availability is excellent, with both genuine and high-quality aftermarket options readily available, which helps keep long-term maintenance costs predictable. This specific Japanese spec model has been kept in prime condition, further protecting its future resale value.

Performance & Capability

The heart of this Prado is the 2.8-liter four-cylinder diesel engine, which is engineered for durability and high torque output at low RPMs. This makes it exceptionally capable for towing or navigating soft sand, as the power is available exactly when you need it without having to rev the engine excessively. Equipped with a genuine All-Wheel Drive system and a low-range transfer case, this vehicle is truly off-road rated and ready for weekend dune bashing or rocky mountain trails. The ground clearance is among the best in its class, allowing you to clear obstacles that would stop a standard crossover in its tracks. On the highway, the automatic transmission is tuned for smooth shifts and efficiency, making the drive from Dubai to Abu Dhabi feel effortless even when fully loaded with seven passengers. While it is not built for track speeds, its stability at 120 km/h is excellent, providing a planted and secure feeling even in high crosswinds. The combination of a ladder-frame chassis and modern suspension ensures that it remains comfortable on tarmac while being indestructible off it.

Comfort & Cabin

Inside, the Prado is designed to be a sanctuary from the harsh GCC environment, featuring a robust 7-seat layout that accommodates large families with ease. The air conditioning system is specifically engineered to handle 50°C temperatures, with dedicated vents for the rear passengers to ensure everyone stays cool during the peak of summer. The TXL-2 cabin features high-quality cloth or synthetic materials that are often preferred in this climate over dark leather, as they stay significantly cooler when the car is parked in the sun. The seating position is high and commanding, giving the driver excellent visibility over traffic and a clear view of the trail ahead when driving off-road. Modern amenities including a touchscreen infotainment system and multiple USB ports ensure that all passengers stay connected during long road trips. Acoustic glass and thick door seals help to isolate the cabin from the noise of the desert wind and city traffic, creating a premium atmosphere. The third-row seats fold flat into the floor, providing a massive boot space for luggage, camping gear, or grocery hauls when they are not in use.

Safety

Safety is a hallmark of the Toyota Prado, which carries a 5-Star NCAP rating, providing peace of mind for family buyers. This trim comes equipped with an array of active safety features including Vehicle Stability Control and Traction Control, which are vital for maintaining composure on both slippery rain-slicked roads and loose sand surfaces. The inclusion of multiple airbags, including side-curtain airbags for all three rows, ensures maximum protection for all seven occupants in the event of a collision. For the high-speed multi-lane highways of the UAE and Saudi Arabia, the Prado’s braking system is reinforced with ABS and Electronic Brakeforce Distribution to ensure short, controlled stopping distances. Blind-spot monitoring and rear parking sensors make navigating tight city parking garages much safer and easier for a vehicle of this size. ISOFIX anchors are standard, making it easy to securely install child seats for younger family members. This SUV is built like a fortress, utilizing high-tensile steel in its construction to provide a rigid safety cell for all passengers.

The bottom line

For the GCC buyer seeking the perfect balance of legendary reliability, diesel efficiency, and low-mileage freshness, this 2021 Prado TXL-2 is an unbeatable opportunity. It is a smart, low-depreciation investment that is equally at home in the school run as it is on a cross-country expedition.
