Summary

This 2022 Hyundai Palisade SMART offers a rare combination of eight-passenger seating and the balanced performance of the 3.5L V6 engine. In the GCC market, black remains a highly desirable choice for resale, providing a sophisticated look that holds its value well among large SUV buyers. This specific unit bridges the gap for families who need maximum occupancy without the extreme maintenance costs of premium luxury brands. Built to handle the specific heat and distance demands of the region, the Palisade has quickly become a segment leader for reliability and long-distance highway comfort. It represents a sensible, high-utility choice for anyone transitioning from a smaller crossover to a full-sized family hauler.

This Car vs Other 2022 Palisades

With 129,828 km, this vehicle sits slightly above the average GCC annual mileage but reflects the typical high-use pattern for large family SUVs used for inter-city travel between Dubai, Abu Dhabi, and beyond. This level of use is often indicative of highway cruising, which is mechanically preferable to the stop-start wear of city-only traffic. The black exterior is a robust resale asset in the local market, consistently fetching higher demand than niche colors.

SMART vs Lower Trims

The SMART trim in the GCC lineup serves as the essential gateway to the full Palisade experience, offering standard All-Wheel Drive which is often an upgrade on entry-level models. It includes the crucial 8-inch infotainment system with wireless smartphone integration, ensuring modern connectivity is standard. Unlike basic entry trims that may lack driver assistance, the SMART trim integrates key elements of the Hyundai SmartSense suite to protect all eight occupants.

Palisade vs Segment Rivals

The Palisade leads rivals like the Honda Pilot and Toyota Highlander by offering a more accommodating third row that is genuinely usable by adults on longer journeys. Its 71-liter fuel tank is optimized for long GCC desert highway stretches, reducing the frequency of fuel stops compared to smaller-capacity competitors. Furthermore, the 3.5L engine is specifically tuned for the region, balancing overtaking power with sustainable cooling performance in peak summer temperatures.

Running Costs & Resale

Real-world fuel consumption for the 3.5L V6 averages approximately 10.6 L/100km, though this will fluctuate in heavy Dubai or Riyadh traffic. Hyundai’s extensive authorized service network across the UAE and Saudi Arabia ensures that parts are readily available and maintenance is predictable. The Palisade historically retains strong value in the GCC, typically depreciating at a slower rate than its American or European counterparts, making it a lower-risk long-term asset.

Performance & Capability

The 277 hp V6 enables a 0-100 km/h time of 8.1 seconds, which is impressive for a vehicle of this size and weight. The All-Wheel Drive system features selectable Multi-Terrain modes, providing extra confidence when navigating gravel tracks or wet surfaces during the occasional rainy season. On the highway, the 8-speed automatic transmission keeps RPMs low, ensuring a quiet and vibration-free cabin during high-speed cruising at 120 km/h.

Comfort & Cabin

This interior is configured with the full eight-seat layout, utilizing a second-row bench for maximum family logistics. The GCC-spec air conditioning is notoriously powerful, featuring dedicated roof-mounted vents for both the second and third rows to ensure every passenger stays cool in 45°C+ heat. Generous acoustic insulation minimizes road noise, while the one-touch sliding second row makes accessing the rear seats effortless for children and adults alike.

Safety

Safety is managed by an advanced suite including Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist, Lane Keeping Assist, and Blind-Spot Collision-Avoidance. These systems are particularly valuable on fast-moving GCC highways where heavy traffic and lane changes are constant. The vehicle is also equipped with a comprehensive airbag system and Rear Occupant Alert, providing peace of mind for parents during daily school runs and weekend trips.

The bottom line

For a growing family in the GCC, this Palisade SMART offers the perfect balance of eight-seat practicality and proven V6 reliability in a high-demand color.
