Summary

This 2022 Toyota Fortuner GXR is the ideal choice for GCC families who need a reliable seven-seater with genuine off-road capability. Powered by the more desirable 4.0L V6 engine, it offers a major performance advantage for highway overtaking and desert driving compared to the base four-cylinder models. As a four-year-old vehicle with average mileage for the region, it remains in its prime for long-term ownership. The white exterior is the highest-demand color in the local used market, ensuring maximum heat reflection in the summer and superior resale liquidity. Toyota's legendary reliability and the extensive regional service network make this a low-risk, high-reward investment for life in the Gulf.

This Car vs Other 2022 Fortuners

With 108,368 km, this Fortuner sits right at the average mileage expectation for a four-year-old vehicle in the GCC, where 25,000 km per year is common due to frequent inter-city highway travel. Its white finish is the strongest resale color in the UAE and Saudi markets, providing a genuine value advantage when you eventually decide to trade up. Choosing the GXR trim over the entry-level 2.7L models ensures you have the power needed for comfortable seven-passenger trips across the Emirates.

GXR vs Lower Trims

The GXR trim provides a significant mechanical upgrade over the EXR by introducing the 4.0L V6 engine and a standard 4x4 system with a low-range transfer case. Inside, you benefit from upgraded convenience features like a rear-view camera, parking sensors, and a larger touchscreen with smartphone integration. While lower trims focus on basic urban transport, the GXR is built for GCC buyers who require a balance of everyday comfort and the muscle for weekend desert adventures.

Fortuner vs Segment Rivals

The Fortuner leads rivals like the Mitsubishi Montero Sport and Nissan X-Terra with its superior resale value and the most extensive service network in the region. Its body-on-frame construction, shared with the Hilux, gives it a durability advantage over unibody crossovers in this price bracket. For GCC buyers, the massive availability of spare parts and Toyota's specialized cooling systems make it the more practical choice for surviving extreme summer heat.

Running Costs & Resale

The 4.0L V6 engine delivers a balanced fuel consumption of approximately 10.4 L/100km on combined routes, making it surprisingly efficient for its size during highway cruising. Maintenance is straightforward with 10,000 km service intervals, and Toyota's massive presence means you can find authorized service centers in almost every major city from Abu Dhabi to Riyadh. Historically, the Fortuner GXR is one of the slowest-depreciating SUVs in the GCC, typically retaining a high percentage of its value even after several years of use.

Performance & Capability

The 235 hp V6 engine provides 376 Nm of torque, allowing for a 0-100 km/h time of approximately 9 seconds, which is essential for confident merging onto fast-moving highways like the E11. Its 279 mm ground clearance and part-time 4WD system with a rear differential lock make it a capable performer in the dunes of the Empty Quarter or the wadis of Oman. Whether you are towing a boat or navigating city traffic, the six-speed automatic transmission ensures power is always delivered smoothly.

Comfort & Cabin

The cabin comfortably seats seven passengers across three rows, with dedicated rear AC vents that are critical for keeping every passenger cool during the peak GCC summer. The GXR features durable seating materials designed to withstand family wear and fine desert sand, while the 8-inch infotainment system provides modern connectivity. The flexible seating layout allows the third row to fold up, creating a massive cargo area for family road trips or camping gear.

Safety

The Fortuner GXR comes standard with essential safety features including dual front airbags and a knee airbag for the driver. Active systems like Vehicle Stability Control (VSC), Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) with Brake Assist, and Hill-start Assist Control (HAC) provide peace of mind on both slippery gravel roads and high-speed highways. ISOFIX child seat anchors are also standard, making it a secure choice for families with young children.

The bottom line

This V6 Fortuner is the perfect match for a GCC buyer who wants a dependable, seven-seat workhorse that is just as capable on the sand as it is on the highway. Given its high-demand color and mid-range GXR spec, it represents a stable asset with excellent resale potential in the regional market.
