Highlights

• Extensive GCC authorised service network
• Seven seats with all-wheel drive

Summary

This 2022 Highlander GLE HEV represents a smart buy for GCC families looking to balance seven-seat practicality with significantly lower running costs compared to traditional V6 rivals. At 4 years old with 93,279 km, the mileage is well within the expected range for the region, where long-distance highway commutes are the norm. The silver exterior is a top-tier choice for the local market, offering excellent heat reflection and maintaining the highest resale strength in the UAE and Saudi Arabia. As a hybrid, it excels in the stop-start traffic of Dubai or Riyadh, where its electric motors drastically reduce fuel consumption. Toyota’s reputation for reliability and the vast support network across the GCC make this a low-risk, high-reward family workhorse.

This Car vs Other 2022 Highlanders

With 93,279 km on the odometer, this vehicle has been driven approximately 23,300 km per year, which is perfectly average for the GCC market where annual usage typically hits 25,000 km. The silver paint is one of the most sought-after colors in the secondary market, ensuring it will hold its value better than darker or niche shades. Choosing the Hybrid HEV variant over the standard V6 provides a modern edge that is increasingly preferred by local buyers focused on long-term efficiency.

GLE HEV vs Lower Trims

The GLE trim provides a significant step up from the base GX, adding high-demand features like a power-adjustable driver’s seat, a larger 8-inch infotainment display, and a power liftgate for added convenience. Crucially for the GCC climate, it features a more robust tri-zone climate control system ensuring all seven passengers stay cool. It also includes silver roof rails and upgraded interior materials that elevate the cabin experience over the entry-level models.

Highlander vs Segment Rivals

When compared to rivals like the Honda Pilot or the Nissan Pathfinder, the Highlander stands out as the only one in its class to offer a full hybrid powertrain, providing vastly superior fuel economy in heavy traffic. Its all-wheel-drive system is specifically tuned for stability on the gravel and sand-dusted roads common in the region. While competitors rely on larger, thirstier engines, the Highlander delivers comparable passenger space with much longer range per tank.

Running Costs & Resale

Real-world fuel consumption for this hybrid sits at an impressive 6.7 L/100km, which is nearly half that of most V6 SUVs in its segment, especially during urban GCC commutes. Service intervals are typically every 10,000 km, supported by the most extensive authorized service network in the Middle East, ensuring parts are always available and affordable. As a Toyota Hybrid, this model enjoys one of the lowest depreciation rates in the UAE, often retaining over 65% of its value after three years.

Performance & Capability

The 2.5-liter hybrid system produces a combined 240 hp, delivering smooth, immediate torque from a standstill thanks to its electric motors. This makes highway overtaking effortless and provides a refined, quiet ride that is ideal for long cross-border trips between emirates. The All-Wheel Drive system provides the necessary confidence for weekend camping trips or navigating light desert trails without the fuel penalty of a heavy off-roader.

Comfort & Cabin

The seven-seat layout is designed with family logistics in mind, featuring a versatile second row that allows easy access to the third row. The air conditioning system is famously powerful, a must-have for the 45°C+ summer peaks, complemented by rear vents for every row. Acoustic glass helps isolate the cabin from road noise, providing a premium feel during high-speed highway cruising.

Safety

This Highlander comes standard with the Toyota Safety Sense 2.5 suite, which includes essential aids for fast-moving GCC highways such as Pre-Collision System with Pedestrian Detection and Dynamic Radar Cruise Control. It also features Lane Tracing Assist and Blind Spot Monitoring to help navigate multi-lane traffic safely. With a comprehensive airbag system and a 5-star safety pedigree, it offers the highest level of protection for family transport.

The bottom line

This Highlander is the ideal match for a budget-conscious family that refuses to compromise on Toyota’s legendary reliability or regional resale strength. It is a rare opportunity to secure a fuel-efficient, GCC-spec seven-seater that is perfectly acclimated to local conditions.
