Summary

This 2022 Toyota Prado TX-L represents the sweet spot for GCC buyers seeking the ultimate balance between daily urban utility and weekend desert capability. With the desirable 4.0L V6 engine, this vehicle avoids the underpowered feel of the entry-level four-cylinder variants while maintaining the legendary reliability that makes the Prado a staple on UAE roads. The mileage is perfectly aligned with GCC averages for a three-year-old vehicle, suggesting a history of consistent highway use which is often better for mechanical longevity than short city bursts. Finished in black, it occupies a high-demand niche in the resale market, ensuring that your investment remains protected. Compared to rivals, the Prado offers a level of mechanical simplicity and parts availability that is unmatched across the emirates. For a buyer looking for a dependable family hauler that can transition from a school run in Dubai to a camping trip in the Liwa desert without hesitation, this GCC-spec example is an outstanding choice.

This Car vs Other 2022 Prados

When looking at the 2022 model year in the GCC market, this specific Prado sits right in the expected mileage bracket of approximately 30,000 to 35,000 km per year. In a region where highway commutes between emirates are the norm, 100,000 km on a three-year-old Toyota is considered a sign of a well-utilized but reliable workhorse that has likely seen regular scheduled maintenance. Many other listings from this year may feature the smaller 2.7L engine, but this example carries the 4.0L V6 which is significantly more coveted for its overtaking power and sand-dune performance. The black exterior is a premium choice in the UAE, offering a more executive look than the standard white while still holding excellent resale value. Because it is a GCC-spec vehicle, it benefits from a cooling system and air conditioning unit specifically engineered to handle 50°C summers, unlike imported regional variants. Buying a car that has spent its entire life in local conditions ensures that the rubber seals, plastics, and fluids are all suited to the high-ambient temperatures of the Middle East.

TX-L vs Lower Trims

Choosing the TX-L trim over the base EXR or TX variants provides a significant jump in both comfort and technology that GCC buyers find essential. The most notable upgrade is the inclusion of the 4.0L V6 engine as standard, which provides 271 horsepower compared to the much lower output of the 2.7L units found in entry-level models. Inside, the TX-L adds more refined touchpoints and better seat materials that are designed to stay cooler and wear better over years of family use. You also benefit from enhanced climate control features, including dedicated rear-seat cooling vents that are non-negotiable for keeping passengers comfortable during the July heat. The exterior of the TX-L is distinguished by more premium trim accents and alloy wheels that give it a more commanding presence on the road. Furthermore, this trim often includes additional convenience features like a cool box in the center console, which is a game-changer for keeping beverages ice-cold during long drives across the desert.

Prado vs Segment Rivals

The Toyota Prado consistently leads its segment when compared to rivals like the Mitsubishi Pajero or the Ford Everest. While the Pajero was a long-time competitor, the Prado’s 2022 tech and superior ground clearance give it a modern edge in both refinement and off-road geometry. Against the Ford Everest, the Prado wins on sheer mechanical simplicity and the peace of mind that comes with the most extensive service network in the GCC. The Prado’s fuel tank capacity is specifically designed for long-range cruising, allowing for extended trips between gas stations on the long stretches of highway between Abu Dhabi and Riyadh. Its resale value remains the highest in the mid-size SUV category, often retaining up to 15% more value over a three-year period than its American or European counterparts. For the GCC driver, the Prado is the default choice because it isn't just an SUV; it is a regional institution backed by a parts supply chain found in every corner of the peninsula.

Running Costs & Resale

Operating a 4.0L V6 Prado in the GCC is surprisingly predictable thanks to the widespread availability of affordable parts and expertise. In mixed driving conditions—combining the stop-start traffic of Sheikh Zayed Road with high-speed cruising—you can expect a balanced fuel consumption that justifies the V6's power. Service intervals are typically every 10,000 km, and because this is a GCC-spec Toyota, you can have it maintained at any authorized Al Futtaim or equivalent regional center with full access to genuine parts. The depreciation curve for a Prado is among the shallowest in the world; a 2022 model with this mileage is currently entering its most stable value phase, meaning your cost of ownership over the next two years will be remarkably low. Insurance premiums remain competitive because the vehicle is regarded as safe and easy to repair. Owners can rest easy knowing that the Prado is essentially 'liquid gold' in the UAE used car market, often selling within days of being listed due to perennial demand.

Performance & Capability

The heart of this Prado is the 271 hp V6 engine, which provides the torque necessary for effortless highway overtaking even when fully loaded with seven passengers. Its 0-100 km/h performance is respectable for a body-on-frame SUV, but its true strength lies in its low-range gearing and Four Wheel Drive system. With a proper transfer case, this vehicle is a genuine off-roader capable of tackling steep dunes and rocky wadis that would stop most 'soft-roaders' in their tracks. The ground clearance is among the best in its class, ensuring that the underbody remains protected during weekend adventures. On the highway, the suspension is tuned for comfort, soaking up road imperfections and providing a stable, commanding view of the traffic ahead. Whether you are towing a jet ski to the coast or navigating a sudden sandstorm on the E11, the Prado feels planted and invincible.

Comfort & Cabin

The cabin of the 2022 TX-L is designed with the large GCC family in mind, offering a versatile 7-seat configuration that can be adjusted to prioritize either passenger legroom or cargo space. The air conditioning system is a standout feature, widely regarded as the most powerful in the industry, capable of dropping the cabin temperature from searing heat to a comfortable chill in mere minutes. High-quality materials are used throughout the interior to ensure durability against the fine desert sand and intense UV exposure common in the region. The TX-L trim includes a modern infotainment system with intuitive controls, ensuring you stay connected during long cross-country drives. Noise insulation is excellent, creating a quiet sanctuary that shields occupants from the roar of the highway and the wind. For those who frequently travel with children, the second and third rows offer ample headroom and easy access, making it a practical daily driver for school runs and grocery trips.

Safety

Safety in the 2022 Prado is comprehensive, featuring a suite of active and passive systems designed to protect all seven occupants. It comes equipped with multiple airbags, including side-curtain protection for all rows, and advanced Electronic Brakeforce Distribution which is vital for heavy SUVs in emergency braking scenarios. The Vehicle Stability Control is specifically tuned to manage the car’s high center of gravity, providing confidence during sudden maneuvers on sand or wet tarmac. Rear parking sensors and a high-resolution camera make navigating tight parking spots in crowded malls like Mall of the Emirates or Dubai Mall effortless. For long highway journeys, the cruise control and blind-spot monitoring systems significantly reduce driver fatigue and improve safety in the fast-moving lanes of GCC motorways. The Prado’s robust ladder-frame construction provides an additional layer of physical protection that monocoque SUVs simply cannot match.

The bottom line

This V6 Prado TX-L is the perfect acquisition for a savvy buyer who prioritizes mechanical reliability and high resale value above all else. It is a turn-key solution for a family that needs a dependable daily driver today and an adventurous off-roader tomorrow.
