Summary

This GCC-spec Kia Sportage LX offers a high-value entry into the mid-size SUV segment, particularly for buyers prioritizing space and low running costs. While the mileage is on the higher side for a three-year-old vehicle, it reflects the typical long-distance highway use common in the region, where these 2.0-liter engines are known for their durability. The Grey exterior is a versatile, high-demand choice in the GCC market, ensuring better heat management and strong resale potential compared to darker tones. As a regional favorite, this model stands out for its straightforward mechanics and exceptional parts availability across the UAE and Saudi Arabia. It remains a practical choice for families who need a modern crossover that is inexpensive to maintain and easy to service anywhere in the Gulf.

This Car vs Other 2023 Sportages

At 98,000 km, this vehicle has been driven more than the average GCC annual usage of 25,000 km, placing it in the higher-mileage bracket for its age. However, this often translates to a more attractive entry price for a current-generation model that has likely spent most of its life on well-maintained motorways. The Grey finish is a strategic choice for the local climate, as it hides dust well and maintains a strong secondary market value in the UAE.

LX vs Lower Trims

The LX trim serves as the essential entry point but includes key upgrades often missing in basic fleet versions, such as 17-inch alloy wheels and a dedicated drive mode selector. It features the 12.2-inch digital instrument cluster and 8-inch infotainment display with wireless smartphone integration, providing a modern cabin feel. Unlike some base models, the LX includes LED daytime running lights and rear parking sensors, which are highly valued for city driving in tight Dubai or Riyadh parking spaces.

Sportage vs Segment Rivals

The Sportage is frequently cross-shopped with the Toyota RAV4 and Hyundai Tucson, leading the group in rear legroom and cargo flexibility. While some rivals offer more complex powertrains, the Kia’s naturally aspirated 2.0-liter engine is prized in the GCC for its simplicity and resistance to extreme summer heat. Its 541-litre boot capacity provides more usable daily space than many compact crossovers in the same price bracket.

Running Costs & Resale

Real-world fuel consumption typically averages between 8 and 10 L/100km in GCC stop-start traffic, dropping significantly during steady highway cruises between emirates. Kia’s service network is one of the most robust in the region, with major distributors like Al Majid (UAE) and Al Jabr (KSA) ensuring affordable parts and high technician expertise. The Sportage retains roughly 80-85% of its value after three years in the GCC market, making it one of the more stable financial choices in the SUV segment.

Performance & Capability

The 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine produces a reliable 159 hp, delivered smoothly through a 6-speed automatic transmission designed for comfort rather than speed. It excels as a highway cruiser, offering a stable ride at 120 km/h with enough ground clearance to handle gravel tracks or high city speed bumps with ease. While it is a front-wheel-drive city SUV, the selectable drive modes allow you to sharpen throttle response for overtaking or optimize efficiency for long-distance desert road trips.

Comfort & Cabin

The cabin is designed for the Gulf climate, featuring a powerful air conditioning system with dedicated rear vents to ensure all five passengers stay cool during peak summer. The interior is finished in durable materials that resist wear from sand and sunlight, complemented by 60/40 split-folding rear seats for added utility. Sound-absorbing windshield glass is standard on this generation, significantly reducing wind noise during high-speed highway commutes.

Safety

This Sportage comes equipped with a comprehensive safety suite including multiple airbags, Electronic Stability Control (ESC), and Hill-start Assist Control (HAC). Standard rear parking sensors and a high-definition rearview camera provide essential assistance in crowded urban areas. The body structure utilizes high-strength steel, contributing to the model's strong global safety ratings and providing peace of mind for family transport.

The bottom line

This 2023 Sportage LX is an ideal opportunity for a budget-conscious family or a high-mileage commuter who wants a modern, GCC-spec SUV with the region's best service support.
