Summary

This 2023 GLS 450 is a compelling choice for UAE families seeking executive-level luxury without the steep initial depreciation of a V8 model. The white exterior is a strategic asset for the GCC market, offering the highest heat reflection and maintaining a significantly stronger resale value than darker tones. With its sophisticated mild-hybrid straight-six, it bridges the gap between urban efficiency and the heavy-duty power required for cross-border highway trips. As a full-size seven-seater, it offers more genuine third-row utility than its closest rivals, making it a versatile daily driver for the region's active lifestyle.

This Car vs Other 2023 GLS 450s

With 87,018 km on the clock, this vehicle sits slightly above the average annual usage for the GCC, which typically ranges from 20,000 to 25,000 km per year. However, these kilometers are often high-quality highway miles between emirates, and the car's 2023 model year ensures it retains all the latest MBUX interior technology. The white paintwork is the most sought-after color in the local used market, ensuring faster liquidity when it's time to sell.

4MATIC vs Lower Trims

As the standard 4MATIC all-wheel-drive trim, this GLS 450 provides essential traction for light sand and gravel surfaces common in GCC outskirts. It comes equipped with ventilated front seats and a four-zone climate control system, features that are often optional on lower-tier luxury SUVs but are vital for maintaining cabin comfort during Gulf summers. The inclusion of the Burmester surround-sound system and a 360-degree camera provides the high-tech experience local buyers expect.

GLS 450 vs Segment Rivals

Compared to the BMW X7 or Audi Q7, the GLS 450 leads with a massive 90-litre fuel tank, providing superior range for long-distance drives across the UAE and Saudi Arabia. Its cabin is widely regarded as the most spacious for seven adults, offering a more usable third row than the X7. Additionally, the Airmatic air suspension provides a level of ride refinement that mirrors the S-Class, specifically tuned to iron out the varied road surfaces found across the region.

Running Costs & Resale

The 3.0L mild-hybrid engine is optimized for a combined fuel consumption of roughly 9.2L/100km, which helps manage costs during stop-start city traffic in Dubai or Riyadh. While this is an American spec vehicle, parts for the GLS platform are widely available through independent specialists and the authorized Mercedes network across the GCC. American spec models typically enter the market at a lower price point, offering a high-spec luxury experience for a more accessible initial investment.

Performance & Capability

The turbocharged straight-six delivers a smooth 367 hp, enabling a 0–100 km/h sprint of 6.2 seconds, which is ample for confident highway merging. Its standout mechanical trait is the 3,493 kg braked towing capacity, making it a capable partner for those hauling jet skis or horse trailers. The 4MATIC all-wheel-drive system works seamlessly with the air suspension to provide a stable, high-riding command position that feels secure at highway speeds.

Comfort & Cabin

Designed for long-range family comfort, the cabin features three rows of power-adjustable seating and a dedicated climate zone for rear passengers. The inclusion of standard ventilated seats is a significant advantage in the GCC, ensuring rapid cooling even after the car has been parked in direct sunlight. Dual 12.3-inch widescreen displays dominate the dashboard, offering intuitive navigation and customizable ambient lighting that enhances the executive feel during evening drives.

Safety

Safety is managed by a comprehensive ADAS suite including Blind Spot Assist and Active Brake Assist, which are particularly valuable on fast-moving multi-lane highways. The 360-degree surround-view camera is a necessity for navigating this 5.2-meter SUV into tight mall parking spaces. It also features Crosswind Assist, a specialized system that helps maintain stability during the high-speed gusts frequently encountered on open desert roads.

The bottom line

For the buyer who wants the prestigious 'S-Class of SUVs' in a high-resale color, this 2023 GLS 450 offers a modern, tech-rich family environment at a better value than a GCC-local equivalent.
