Summary

This 2023 GLS450 offers a balanced entry into Mercedes-Benz's flagship SUV lineup, featuring a smooth mild-hybrid powertrain perfect for regional highway cruising. The white exterior is the most sought-after color in the GCC market, ensuring strong resale value and better heat reflection during peak summer months. While this is an American spec vehicle, it offers the same high-level luxury and three-row practicality that makes the model a favorite for families in the UAE. With the 4MATIC system and AIRMATIC suspension, it handles long-distance drives between emirates with exceptional stability and comfort.

This Car vs Other 2023 GLS450s

With 87,018 km on the odometer, this vehicle has been driven more than the typical GCC luxury SUV average of 20,000 km per year, making it an accessible entry point for a relatively new model year. The white exterior remains a premier choice in the local market for its ability to maintain a clean appearance and hold value better than darker shades. As an American spec, it offers a high standard equipment level often found in North American premium builds.

4MATIC vs Lower Trims

The GLS450 4MATIC comes standard with the AIRMATIC air suspension system, allowing the driver to raise the vehicle for varied terrain or lower it for easier entry. Unlike smaller SUV models, the GLS includes a Burmester surround-sound system and four-zone climate control as standard, which are vital for maintaining cabin comfort for all seven passengers in the heat. It also features the MBUX infotainment suite with dual 12.3-inch displays that provide a more immersive tech experience than the base GLE models.

GLS450 vs Segment Rivals

The GLS450 leads rivals like the BMW X7 and Lexus LX in overall cabin airiness and third-row accessibility, thanks to its longer wheelbase. While the Lexus is built for heavy-duty desert use, the GLS offers superior on-road refinement and a more advanced mild-hybrid system that improves stop-start fuel efficiency in city traffic. Its 90-litre fuel tank provides a significant range advantage for long cross-border drives compared to many mid-sized luxury crossovers.

Running Costs & Resale

Real-world fuel consumption for this mild-hybrid inline-six averages approximately 11.6 L/100km, performing efficiently on open highways. Owners should note that while Mercedes-Benz has an extensive authorized network in the UAE, American spec vehicles may require specialized service centers for software updates or specific parts not shared with GCC builds. The GLS typically sees a depreciation rate of 12-15% annually in the UAE, with white-on-beige configurations holding the highest market demand.

Performance & Capability

The 3.0-litre turbocharged engine delivers a verified 0-100 km/h time of 6.2 seconds, providing effortless overtaking power on the E11 highway. The 4MATIC all-wheel-drive system works in tandem with the 9G-TRONIC automatic transmission to provide smooth, uninterrupted power delivery. Standard AIRMATIC suspension adjusts damping in real-time, ensuring that even when fully loaded with seven passengers, the ride remains composed and level.

Comfort & Cabin

The cabin is configured for seven adults with a power-folding 50/50 split third row that is genuinely usable for long trips. Four-zone automatic climate control ensures that rear passengers receive dedicated cooling, a necessity for UAE summers. The interior is insulated with acoustic glass, significantly reducing wind and road noise during high-speed cruising, while the customizable ambient lighting creates a high-end executive atmosphere at night.

Safety

This trim includes a comprehensive safety suite featuring Blind Spot Assist, which is essential for multi-lane highway driving, and a 360-degree camera for navigating tight parking spaces. It also comes equipped with Active Brake Assist and PRE-SAFE technology, which prepares the cabin for an imminent collision. The inclusion of nine airbags and advanced stability control provides peace of mind for large families during long-distance travel.

The bottom line

This 2023 GLS450 is a smart choice for a buyer seeking a near-new flagship Mercedes SUV at a competitive price point due to its American spec and mileage. It combines the most desirable color for the region with the space and tech required for premium family life in the GCC.
