Summary

This 2023 Mercedes-Benz S500 4MATIC L represents a rare opportunity to acquire a flagship luxury sedan with exceptionally low mileage, effectively offering a new-car experience. Finished in Obsidian Black, a premier choice for resale value in the GCC, this S-Class stands out for its perfect balance of hybrid efficiency and effortless inline-six power. While the S-Class has always defined the executive segment, the W223 generation brings a significant technological leap that makes rivals feel a step behind. For the UAE buyer, the combination of advanced climate management and the prestige of the S-Class badge makes it the definitive choice for both self-driving and chauffeured use.

This Car vs Other 2023 S500s

With only 2,500 km on the odometer, this S500 sits well below the typical 20,000 km annual average for luxury sedans in the UAE. The Obsidian Black exterior is the most sought-after color in the GCC used market, ensuring significantly better value retention compared to niche shades. While this is an American spec vehicle, the mechanical components are globally consistent, though buyers should verify local service contract compatibility.

4MATIC L vs Lower Trims

The 4MATIC L trim is the long-wheelbase variant that adds essential rear-cabin legroom, making it vastly superior to standard wheelbase models for executive use. Unlike lower-tier executive sedans, this S500 comes standard with the MBUX interior assistant, 360-degree surround cameras, and the AIRMATIC air suspension system that provides a 'magic carpet' ride. It also features ventilated front seats and a panoramic sunroof, which are high-demand items for the GCC summer climate.

S500 vs Segment Rivals

The S500 leads the BMW 7 Series and Audi A8 in cabin refinement and secondary ride quality, particularly on the fast-moving highways between Abu Dhabi and Dubai. Its 12.8-inch OLED central display is more intuitive than the multi-screen setups found in rivals, offering better visibility in high-glare desert light. The S-Class consistently holds a 5-8% resale premium over its German competitors in the regional market due to higher demand for the brand.

Running Costs & Resale

The 3.0L mild-hybrid powertrain is optimized for GCC traffic, using EQ Boost to smooth out stop-start driving while achieving roughly 8.2-9.2 L/100km on long highway runs. Mercedes-Benz maintains one of the most comprehensive authorized service networks across the UAE, Saudi Arabia, and Kuwait, ensuring parts availability is never an issue. Historical data suggests the S-Class retains approximately 65-70% of its value after three years in the GCC, outperforming the segment average.

Performance & Capability

Equipped with the 435 hp inline-six and EQ Boost, this sedan reaches 100 km/h in just 4.9 seconds, providing brisk overtaking power for 140 km/h highway stretches. The 4MATIC all-wheel-drive system offers superior stability during rare rain events or on wind-blown sand-covered roads. With a governed top speed of 250 km/h, the S500 remains remarkably composed and quiet even at the higher speed limits found on inter-emirate routes.

Comfort & Cabin

The interior is a sanctuary from the heat, featuring rapid-heating and ventilated front seats with massage functions as standard. Acoustic laminated glass significantly reduces wind and road noise, a crucial feature for the long desert drives typical of the region. The cabin is further enhanced by 64-color active ambient lighting and the Air Balance package, which includes a dedicated fragrance atomizer to keep the interior fresh.

Safety

This S-Class features a comprehensive ADAS suite including Pre-Safe Impulse Side, which raises the car body just before a side impact to protect occupants. Standard safety highlights for the UAE include Active Blind Spot Assist for multi-lane traffic and Distronic adaptive cruise control for relaxed long-distance cruising. The vehicle's 360-degree camera system and active parking assist make navigating tight mall parking structures effortless.

The bottom line

For the buyer who wants the ultimate executive experience without the new-car depreciation, this ultra-low-mileage S500 in the region's best resale color is the smartest luxury investment available today.
