Summary

This 2023 Toyota Prado VXR is a prime example of the J150 generation, representing the final model year before the significant 2024 redesign. With 66,640 km on the clock, this 3-year-old SUV sits comfortably within expected mileage for the region, where durable highway cruisers like the Prado are often driven extensively between emirates. The Grey exterior is one of the most practical and sought-after colors in the GCC, offering excellent heat management and high resale demand in markets like the UAE and Saudi Arabia. As the VXR trim, this vehicle offers the most comprehensive luxury and safety package available for its year, including premium leather and advanced driver aids. For a buyer seeking a bulletproof, seven-seat family vehicle that doubles as a serious weekend explorer, this GCC-spec Prado remains one of the safest automotive investments in the region.

This Car vs Other 2023 Prados

At 66,640 km, this vehicle’s mileage is typical for a 3-year-old Prado in the GCC, where average annual use often reaches 25,000 km due to long-distance highway travel. The Grey exterior finish is a significant advantage in the local used market, as it hides dust better than black and holds its value more consistently than niche colors. Buyers can expect this specific configuration to be highly liquid at resale, especially given its status as the final-year refined version of the long-running J150 platform.

VXR vs Lower Trims

The VXR trim represents a major step up from the EXR and GXR, adding premium features highly valued in the GCC like full leather upholstery and a sunroof. It includes the larger 19-inch alloy wheels and a more sophisticated LED lighting suite with auto-levelling headlamps that are not standard on base models. Crucially for local families, the VXR provides the full Toyota Safety Sense suite of active driver aids, which offers superior peace of mind on high-speed UAE highways compared to the basic safety equipment of lower grades.

Prado vs Segment Rivals

The Prado consistently leads competitors like the Mitsubishi Montero Sport and Ford Explorer in the GCC due to its massive 150-litre fuel tank, which provides unparalleled range for cross-border trips or desert expeditions. While rivals might offer more road-focused technology, the Prado’s body-on-frame construction and legendary durability make it far better suited for the harsh climate and varying terrain of the Gulf. Its specialized cooling system is designed specifically to maintain cabin comfort even when external temperatures exceed 45°C.

Running Costs & Resale

Real-world fuel consumption for the 4.0L V6 averages approximately 13.0 L/100km in GCC city traffic and drops toward 9.5 L/100km on open highways. Ownership costs are kept low by the most extensive authorized service network in the region, with parts available in almost every major city across the UAE and Saudi Arabia. The Prado enjoys one of the lowest depreciation rates in the market, typically retaining over 75% of its value after three years, making it a reliable store of wealth for expatriates and locals alike.

Performance & Capability

The 4.0L V6 delivers 271 hp and 381 Nm of torque, providing the effortless power needed for high-speed highway overtaking and heavy-duty off-road use. Its 215 mm of ground clearance and full-time all-wheel-drive system are engineered for serious desert capability, supported by a specialized cooling system that handles high-stress driving in extreme summer heat. On-road, the six-speed automatic transmission ensures a smooth and composed ride suitable for daily executive commuting or large family school runs.

Comfort & Cabin

Inside, the seven-seat VXR configuration features high-quality leather and a tri-zone climate control system with dedicated rear vents to ensure every passenger stays cool in the peak of summer. The cabin includes a cooled center console box, a must-have for GCC drivers to keep drinks chilled during long desert journeys. Strategic acoustic insulation keeps the interior quiet and refined, isolating passengers from both road noise and the intense external heat common in the region.

Safety

Standard on this VXR trim is the full Toyota Safety Sense suite, including Pre-Collision System, Lane Departure Alert, and Adaptive Cruise Control, which is particularly useful on the long highway stretches between Abu Dhabi and Dubai. The vehicle is equipped with seven airbags and advanced stability systems designed to maintain control on both high-speed asphalt and shifting sand surfaces. A 360-degree camera system and front/rear parking sensors provide essential assistance for navigating tight city parking and avoiding obstacles in off-road environments.

The bottom line

This 2023 VXR is the perfect choice for a family or enthusiast who wants the peak refinement of the classic Prado generation with the peace of mind of a late-model, GCC-spec vehicle.
