Summary

This 2023 Toyota RAV4 EX represents a highly practical choice for the GCC market, combining the legendary reliability of the 2.5L powertrain with the white exterior that is the gold standard for heat reflection and resale value in the region. At three years old with 74,199 km, it has been driven regularly but remains within the expected range for a long-distance commuter in the Emirates. The EX trim offers the ideal balance of modern safety technology and essential comforts without the complexity of higher-grade electronics. For a buyer prioritizing low long-term running costs and a vehicle that maintains its value better than almost any rival in its segment, this GCC-spec crossover is a top-tier candidate. It is perfectly suited for the daily city grind and the long highway stretches between Abu Dhabi and Dubai.

This Car vs Other 2023 RAV4s

With 74,199 km over three years, this vehicle shows average-to-high mileage typical of a dedicated highway commuter in the UAE or Saudi Arabia. While many listings may show lower numbers, this car’s mileage reflects a vehicle that has been used as intended for long-distance regional travel rather than short, engine-wearing city trips. The white paintwork is a significant advantage in the GCC used market, offering the best resistance to the sun and ensuring the fastest possible resale when you are ready to upgrade.

EX vs Lower Trims

The EX trim adds several essential features over the base LE, most notably the integration of the Toyota Safety Sense 2.5 suite which includes adaptive cruise control and lane-keep assist—features that are invaluable on fast-moving GCC highways. You also gain upgraded alloy wheels and proximity keyless entry with push-button start, moving away from the more basic feel of the entry-level utility models. It provides a more refined interior experience with dedicated rear AC vents, a must-have for passenger comfort during the peak summer months.

RAV4 vs Segment Rivals

The RAV4 leads segment rivals like the Nissan X-Trail and Honda CR-V in sheer resale liquidity and serviceability across the entire GCC. While rivals may offer different interior layouts, the RAV4’s 2.5L naturally aspirated engine is preferred by local buyers for its ability to handle high ambient temperatures and stop-start traffic without the turbocharging complexities found in some competitors. Its 55-litre fuel tank provides a generous cruising range, making it a superior choice for cross-border family road trips.

Running Costs & Resale

Running costs are among the lowest in the SUV category, with a manufacturer-official fuel economy of approximately 7.8 L/100km that performs consistently even in humid coastal traffic. Maintenance is simplified by the most extensive authorized service network in the region, with Al-Futtaim in the UAE and ALJ in Saudi Arabia ensuring parts are always available and affordable. The RAV4 experiences one of the lowest annual depreciation rates in the GCC, typically retaining a high percentage of its value even at the 3-year and 5-year marks.

Performance & Capability

The 2.5L 4-cylinder engine produces a reliable 203 hp, providing sufficient power for confident highway overtaking and merging into high-speed traffic. As a Front Wheel Drive (FWD) model, it is optimized for fuel efficiency and on-road comfort rather than heavy dune bashing, making it ideal for the 95% of driving that happens on tarmac. The automatic transmission is tuned for smoothness, and the over 200 mm of ground clearance is more than enough to handle speed bumps and gravel tracks to the beach or farmhouse.

Comfort & Cabin

The cabin is designed for durability and ease of use, featuring high-quality fabric seats that stay significantly cooler than leather in 45°C heat. Essential for the region, the air conditioning system is exceptionally powerful and includes dedicated rear-seat vents to ensure all five passengers remain comfortable. The 2023 model year updates include an improved infotainment system with seamless smartphone integration, providing modern connectivity for long commutes across the Emirates.

Safety

Safety is a standout feature of this trim, coming standard with Toyota Safety Sense 2.5 which includes a pre-collision system with pedestrian detection, adaptive cruise control, and lane departure alert with steering assist. These active systems are particularly useful in the GCC for mitigating the risks of high-speed highway driving and driver fatigue. The vehicle is also equipped with a comprehensive 8-airbag system and stability control, ensuring it meets the highest safety standards for family transport.

The bottom line

For the pragmatist who wants a modern, tech-enabled SUV that is virtually guaranteed to hold its value, this white GCC-spec RAV4 EX is the safest investment you can make in the current used market.
