Summary

This 2-year-old crossover represents a modern entry into the GCC market, blending futuristic design with practical fuel efficiency. With approximately 51,000 km, the mileage is slightly above the typical annual average for the UAE but remains well within the expectations for a highway commuter. The Silver exterior is a premier choice for the region, offering the best heat reflection and maintaining strong resale demand in the secondary market. As the higher GL trim, this car is better suited for long-distance family travel than its base counterparts, featuring essential climate and safety upgrades. GAC has rapidly expanded its footprint across the Middle East, ensuring that maintenance and parts for this turbocharged SUV are easily accessible.

This Car vs Other 2024 EMKOOs

With 50,938 km on the odometer, this vehicle has been driven slightly more than the average 20,000–25,000 km annually expected in the GCC. However, for a 2-year-old car, this often indicates consistent highway use between emirates, which is generally easier on the mechanical components than heavy city idling. The Silver finish provides a significant advantage for local buyers, as it hides dust well and is highly prized for its value retention in the UAE used car market.

GL vs Lower Trims

The GL trim offers a substantial upgrade over the base GE, most notably adding a 360-degree camera system that is indispensable for parking in tight Dubai or Riyadh spaces. Inside, you benefit from a power-adjustable and ventilated driver seat, a critical feature for maintaining comfort during the peak GCC summer. It also upgrades the safety suite with additional airbags and specialized interior appointments like the ambient lighting system not found on the entry-level model.

EMKOO vs Segment Rivals

The GAC EMKOO leads many rivals like the MG RX5 and Geely Coolray by offering a significantly larger 638-litre boot, providing more utility for family road trips. Its wheelbase of 2,750 mm is among the most generous in the compact crossover segment, resulting in superior rear legroom compared to Japanese competitors in the same price bracket. Additionally, the futuristic 'Tech-Industrial' styling gives it a more distinctive road presence than more conservative rivals.

Running Costs & Resale

Real-world fuel efficiency is a standout feature, with a manufacturer-claimed 6.6 L/100km (NEDC), making it an economical choice for long-distance cruising on GCC highways. GAC is supported by extensive authorized service networks, such as Gargash in the UAE, which ensures reliable parts availability and professional maintenance. While Chinese brands typically see slightly higher initial depreciation than Japanese mainstays, the EMKOO's high standard specification helps it retain value better than many other emerging brands in the region.

Performance & Capability

The 1.5-litre turbocharged engine produces a healthy 177 hp and 270 Nm of torque, allowing for confident highway overtaking and smooth acceleration from 0-100 km/h in approximately 8.8 seconds. Power is delivered through a 7-speed wet dual-clutch transmission, which is specifically engineered for better heat dissipation in high-temperature environments. With a ground clearance of 160 mm and selectable drive modes, it handles weekend escapes and gravel tracks with ease, though its primary strength remains refined on-road performance.

Comfort & Cabin

The cabin is designed for the Middle Eastern climate, featuring a powerful dual-zone automatic climate control system with dedicated rear vents to ensure all five passengers stay cool. The GL trim's ventilated seats and panoramic sunroof with a power sunshade offer a premium atmosphere while effectively managing cabin temperatures. High-quality materials and a 10.1-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay integration provide a modern, connected environment for daily commutes or cross-border drives.

Safety

Safety is prioritized with a comprehensive suite of six airbags and a robust 360-degree camera system for total situational awareness. Standard electronic aids include Hill-Start Hold Control and Electronic Stability Program (ESP), which are particularly useful when navigating sandy or uneven surfaces common in the region. The inclusion of ISOFIX anchors and a high-strength steel cage construction makes it a secure choice for families across the GCC.

The bottom line

This 2024 GAC EMKOO GL is the ideal choice for a tech-forward buyer who needs a fuel-efficient, high-spec family crossover with a strong service network and the most heat-efficient color for the UAE.
