Summary

This 2024 Geely Coolray GS offers a compelling entry into the modern crossover market, especially for those prioritizing a balance of performance and fuel economy. Its grey exterior is a highly practical choice for the GCC, resisting the visibility of dust and holding its resale appeal across the region. As a two-year-old vehicle with average mileage for the UAE market, it provides the updated four-cylinder engine refinement introduced for this model year. The Coolray stands out from its rivals by offering a punchier turbo performance typically found in higher-priced segments. For a GCC buyer, this represents a tech-forward commuter that is equally capable of efficient city driving and steady highway trips between emirates.

This Car vs Other 2024 Coolrays

With 69,000 km over two years, this Coolray sits within the expected average for active GCC commuters who utilize the region's extensive highway networks. While some lower-mileage examples exist, this vehicle has reached the age where major initial depreciation has already occurred, offering a price advantage to the second owner. The grey finish is a top-tier choice for the local market, ensuring easier maintenance in desert conditions and strong demand at resale.

GS vs Lower Trims

The GS trim serves as the essential standard for the 2024 lineup, featuring the core 1.5L turbocharged engine and 7-speed dual-clutch transmission found across all variants. It includes necessary regional features like LED daytime running lights and a high-resolution touchscreen as standard. While higher trims add luxury extras like 360-degree cameras or ventilated seats, the GS focuses on delivering the same mechanical performance and turbocharged punch at a more accessible entry point.

Coolray vs Segment Rivals

In a segment occupied by the MG ZS and Hyundai Creta, the Geely Coolray leads with a significantly quicker 0-100 km/h time and a more sophisticated dual-clutch gearbox. Its engine, developed through Geely's partnership with Volvo, offers a level of refinement and power that rivals often only match in more expensive, larger-displacement versions. The Coolray's compact footprint also provides a tighter turning circle, making it more maneuverable in dense urban traffic in cities like Dubai or Riyadh.

Running Costs & Resale

The 1.5L turbo engine is optimized for efficiency, achieving an impressive 5.8 L/100km under NEDC standards, which translates to lower fuel bills during long-distance GCC commutes. Geely has established a strong service network across the UAE and Saudi Arabia, with parts availability becoming increasingly common. Resale values for the Coolray have stabilized as the brand gains trust, typically retaining around 60% of its value after three years in the GCC market. Maintenance intervals are predictable, and the vehicle is designed to run on standard 91 or 95 octane petrol.

Performance & Capability

The standout figure is the 7.6-second 0-100 km/h acceleration, which provides confident overtaking ability on fast-moving highways like the E11. Powered by a 177 hp four-cylinder engine and 290 Nm of torque, it feels more energetic than most subcompact crossovers. The 7-speed dual-clutch transmission is tuned for efficiency with rapid 0.2-second shifts. Multiple drive modes, including Sport and Eco, allow the driver to prioritize performance or fuel savings depending on the journey.

Comfort & Cabin

Inside, the Coolray GS features a driver-centric cockpit with a 10.25-inch digital display and a 12.3-inch central infotainment screen. The cabin is designed with the GCC climate in mind, featuring a powerful air conditioning system and well-insulated glass to combat summer heat. It seats five comfortably, with the rear bench offering enough legroom for adult passengers on regional trips. The grey exterior is paired with a modern, high-quality interior finish that feels more premium than its segment rivals.

Safety

Safety is managed by a high-strength steel structure and a suite of standard active systems including ABS with Electronic Brakeforce Distribution and Stability Control. The GS trim includes essential driver aids like Hill Descent Control and a rearview camera with parking sensors to assist in tight city spaces. Passive safety is supported by front and side airbags, providing essential protection for families and commuters alike on busy GCC roads.

The bottom line

For the buyer seeking a modern, fuel-efficient crossover that doesn't sacrifice performance, this 2024 Coolray GS is a smart, tech-heavy choice that has already navigated its steepest depreciation curve.
