Summary

This two-year-old crossover represents a smart buy for those seeking a modern aesthetic and punchy performance without the premium price tag. With mileage slightly above the typical UAE average for its age, it has been primarily used for the kind of highway commuting where its turbocharged engine and dual-clutch transmission are most efficient. The crisp White exterior is a top performer for resale in the GCC, effectively reflecting the intense local sun and maintaining its market value. Compared to its peers, this model stands out for its Volvo-derived BMA architecture, offering a level of high-speed stability and cabin refinement that is rare in the sub-compact segment. For the daily GCC driver, this is a balanced package of European-influenced engineering and Chinese tech-value.

This Car vs Other 2024 Coolrays

At 68,396 km, this vehicle has been driven more frequently than the average 20,000 km per year typically seen in the UAE. However, these kilometers are likely highway-based, which often results in less wear on the brakes and suspension than city-stop-start driving. The White paint is the most practical choice for the region, offering the best heat rejection and the highest demand in the used market.

GL vs Lower Trims

As a core trim in the lineup, the GL provides the essential turbocharged performance and 17-inch alloy wheels that define the model's sporty stance. It features the high-definition touchscreen and LED lighting signatures, offering the same 1.5TD powertrain as higher specs but focusing on value-oriented cabin materials that are durable and easy to maintain in a family environment.

Coolray vs Segment Rivals

The Coolray leads rivals like the MG ZS and Changan CS35 Plus specifically in acceleration, delivering a 0-100 km/h time of 7.6 seconds that makes highway overtaking much safer. Its dual-clutch transmission offers 98% efficiency, providing a more responsive feel than the CVTs often found in this class. Additionally, the cabin benefits from sound insulation designed to keep the engine whisper-quiet at speeds below 80 km/h.

Running Costs & Resale

With an official fuel consumption of 6.5 L/100km, this crossover is highly economical for long-distance runs between Emirates. Geely has established a strong presence in the UAE via AGMC, with dedicated service centers in Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Sharjah, and Al Ain ensuring reliable parts availability. While Chinese brands generally see a 12-15% annual depreciation, the Coolray's popularity in the UAE helps it maintain a steadier value floor compared to less common rivals.

Performance & Capability

The 1.5-litre turbocharged engine produces a surprising 177 hp and 290 Nm of torque, allowing for confident maneuvers on fast-moving UAE highways. A 7-speed wet dual-clutch transmission ensures gear shifts are executed in just 0.2 seconds, maintaining momentum during climbs or rapid merges. With a ground clearance of 180 mm, it easily manages high speed bumps and the gravel tracks common in newer residential communities.

Comfort & Cabin

The five-seat interior is designed with the GCC climate in mind, featuring a powerful air conditioning system and fabric seating that stays cooler than leather in the summer heat. The cabin layout centers around a digital cockpit that provides clear visibility even in direct sunlight. Rear seats feature a 60:40 split, allowing you to expand the cargo area for weekend trips or grocery runs while keeping a passenger comfortable.

Safety

Standard safety features on this trim include a high-strength steel structure and a comprehensive electronic stability program designed to handle sand-slicked roads. It is equipped with essential airbags, ABS with Electronic Brakeforce Distribution (EBD), and Hill Start Assist to prevent rollback on inclined exits. The LED daytime running lights ensure high visibility during dusty conditions on desert highways.

The bottom line

This 2024 Coolray GL is the ideal choice for a young professional or a small family looking for a stylish, quick, and fuel-efficient commuter that is still under a strong regional service network.
