Summary

This 2024 Suzuki Baleno GLX offers an ideal entry point for GCC commuters seeking high-end features with minimal running costs. In the top-tier GLX trim, it packs technology typically reserved for much more expensive segments, while the 1.5-litre engine provides reliable performance for both stop-start city traffic and regional highway commutes. Its metallic red finish stands out on the road and maintains strong resale interest in the local market. For those prioritizing efficiency and modern cabin tech without a massive footprint, this low-maintenance hatchback is a practical and well-equipped choice.

This Car vs Other 2024 Balenos

With approximately 62,704 km, this Baleno has seen active use typical of a daily commuter on GCC highways. While higher than some purely city-driven examples, it remains well within the expected range for a 2024 model in the region where long-distance travel is routine. The vibrant red exterior provides a bold alternative to the common silver and white options found in the UAE used market.

GLX vs Lower Trims

The GLX trim is a significant step up from the base GL, adding a 360-degree camera and a head-up display that are rare for this segment. Inside, you get a larger 9-inch infotainment screen compared to the standard 7-inch unit, along with keyless entry, push-button start, and six airbags for enhanced safety. Exterior upgrades include 16-inch polished alloy wheels and LED projector headlamps that provide much better visibility during night drives across the Emirates.

Baleno vs Segment Rivals

When compared to the Toyota Starlet or the Mitsubishi Mirage, the Baleno GLX leads with its superior cabin technology and safety equipment. It offers a more refined interior than the Mirage and features a more comprehensive camera system than the standard Starlet. Its 1.5-litre engine is perfectly tuned for local conditions, balancing fuel economy with the power needed for highway overtaking.

Running Costs & Resale

The Baleno is one of the most cost-effective cars to run in the GCC, with real-world fuel consumption averaging around 5.4 L/100km. Suzuki's massive service network across the UAE, Saudi Arabia, and Oman ensures that parts are affordable and maintenance is straightforward. Historically, Japanese hatchbacks like the Baleno retain value exceptionally well in the local market, typically depreciating at a lower rate than European competitors.

Performance & Capability

The 1.5-litre 4-cylinder engine produces 103 hp, making it surprisingly agile for urban driving and perfectly capable of maintaining highway speeds. The 4-speed automatic transmission is built for durability and ease of use in the heavy traffic of Dubai or Riyadh. With a ground clearance of 150 mm, it easily clears standard speed breakers and handles minor road imperfections with confidence.

Comfort & Cabin

The cabin is designed for maximum utility, offering a 318-litre boot that handles groceries and light luggage with ease. Despite its compact exterior, the Baleno provides generous legroom for five passengers and features a powerful air conditioning system that is specifically engineered to handle the extreme summer heat of the GCC. The GLX trim adds premium touches like a leather-wrapped steering wheel and auto-dimming mirrors for enhanced night driving comfort.

Safety

This GLX trim prioritizes safety with a total of six airbags, including side and curtain units which are often optional in this segment. Standard electronic stability control and hill-hold assist provide added confidence on varied road surfaces and parking slopes. The inclusion of a 360-degree camera system is a major advantage for navigating tight urban parking spots and detecting obstacles in busy city environments.

The bottom line

This Baleno GLX is the perfect opportunity for a first-time buyer or a small family looking for a reliable, tech-heavy daily driver that won't break the bank at the petrol station.
