Summary

This 2024 Toyota Fortuner EXR is an exceptional find for the GCC buyer, balancing nearly-new reliability with the heavy lifting of a proper family SUV. The grey exterior is a highly sensible choice for the region, offering excellent resistance to the visibility of desert dust while maintaining a professional aesthetic that holds its value better than bold lifestyle colors. Given that most GCC drivers cover over 20,000 km annually, this car’s mileage is exactly where a well-maintained, active vehicle should be for its age, suggesting it has been used for the highway commutes it was designed for rather than sitting idle. As an EXR trim, it provides the essential balance of off-road capability and everyday utility without the excessive complexity of higher trims, making it a reliable companion for both city errands and weekend desert escapes. The Fortuner remains the de facto choice in the Middle East for those who prioritize mechanical longevity and effortless servicing over fragile tech. Choosing a GCC-spec model like this ensures you are protected by the most robust cooling systems and parts availability found in the region. This is a pragmatic, high-value purchase for any family looking to secure a vehicle that will survive the harshest summers and retain its equity for years to come.

This Car vs Other 2024 Fortuners

When comparing this specific 2024 Fortuner to others currently available in the GCC market, the first thing to note is that the mileage is consistent with a vehicle that has been used primarily for inter-emirate or regional commuting. While some low-mileage examples may have been city-bound, this vehicle’s usage pattern typically indicates more stable engine temperatures and fewer short, high-wear trips. The grey metallic finish is a strategic advantage in the local market; it doesn't show the micro-scratches from sand as easily as black, and it carries much higher resale demand than non-metallic colors. This being a 2024 model means you are getting the benefit of the latest minor refinements in suspension tuning and cabin insulation. It represents a significant saving over a showroom-fresh unit while still feeling and smelling like a modern, contemporary SUV. For the buyer who wants the peace of mind of a late-model Toyota without the steep initial first-year depreciation hit, this specific listing is positioned as a very logical entry point.

EXR vs Lower Trims

Stepping into the EXR trim provides a significant leap in functional luxury and aesthetics compared to the base GX models found in some markets. The EXR is specifically curated for the GCC, adding essential features like a more refined infotainment system and upgraded seat upholstery that handles the summer heat far better than entry-level materials. One of the most critical upgrades in this trim is the wheel and tire package, which provides a better balance for highway stability while still allowing for the side-wall flex required during weekend dune drives. You also benefit from improved interior lighting and additional convenience features like cruise control and parking sensors, which are often missing from commercial-grade base trims. In the GCC, the EXR is considered the 'sweet spot' for resale, as it contains all the features a family buyer actually uses without the premium price tag of the V6 variants. It feels substantially more like a private passenger vehicle and less like a utilitarian workhorse, making it much easier to live with as a daily driver.

Fortuner vs Segment Rivals

The Toyota Fortuner occupies a unique space in the GCC market, often cross-shopped with the Mitsubishi Montero Sport and the Nissan X-Terra. Where the Fortuner leads its rivals is in the sheer robustness of its ladder-frame chassis and its legendary air conditioning system, which is widely regarded as the most powerful in the segment for cooling a 7-seat cabin in 50°C heat. While some competitors use CVT transmissions, the Fortuner’s traditional automatic gearbox is preferred by local drivers for its durability and predictable performance when climbing dunes or towing. The fuel tank capacity is generous, allowing for long-highway stints between major cities like Dubai and Salalah or Riyadh and Dammam without constant fuel stops. Furthermore, the resale value of the Fortuner in the UAE and Saudi Arabia remains significantly higher than the Montero Sport, making the total cost of ownership over three to five years much lower. It offers a level of mechanical 'honesty' and toughness that more car-based crossovers in this price bracket simply cannot match.

Running Costs & Resale

Owning a Toyota Fortuner in the Middle East is perhaps the safest financial decision an automotive buyer can make. Real-world fuel consumption for the 2.7L four-cylinder engine is impressively consistent, averaging around 10.5 to 11.5 liters per 100km depending on how much time is spent in heavy city traffic. Because this is a GCC-spec vehicle, it is designed to run efficiently on local fuel grades without the sensitivity found in European turbocharged imports. Service intervals are a standard 10,000 km, and with the most extensive authorized service network in the region—from Al-Futtaim in the UAE to Abdul Latif Jameel in KSA—you are never more than a short drive from expert care. Parts are exceptionally affordable and readily available at every corner, which keeps maintenance costs at a fraction of what you would pay for a premium SUV. Historically, the Fortuner loses only 8-10% of its value annually, whereas many segment rivals can see drops of 15% or more. This means when it comes time to upgrade in a few years, your trade-in value will remain remarkably strong.

Performance & Capability

The heart of the Fortuner’s performance lies in its genuine 4x4 capability, featuring a proper low-range transfer case that many modern SUVs have abandoned. The 2.7L engine is tuned for reliability and torque, providing enough grunt to navigate moderate sandy terrain and maintain steady speeds on the fast-moving GCC highways. With a generous ground clearance of 279mm, it easily clears high curbs and rocky wadi paths that would damage a standard sedan or crossover. This vehicle is not just about the numbers; it’s about the confidence it inspires when the pavement ends or when sudden desert rainstorms turn roads into pools of water. The four-wheel-drive system is simple to engage, and the heavy-duty suspension is built to withstand the vibration of corrugated gravel roads common in rural areas of the Emirates and Oman. Whether you are towing a small boat to the coast or taking the family for a sunset desert picnic, the Fortuner handles the task with a mechanical ruggedness that has made it a regional icon.

Comfort & Cabin

Inside, the Fortuner is designed as a true 7-seater, featuring a flexible layout where the third-row seats fold up to the sides to reveal a massive cargo area. The air conditioning system is a standout feature, with dedicated vents for the second and third rows ensuring every passenger stays cool during the peak of summer. The cabin is trimmed in durable materials that are designed to resist the wear and tear of sand and frequent cleaning, which is essential for a family vehicle in this region. The seating position is high and commanding, providing excellent visibility over the top of smaller cars, which is a major safety and comfort benefit on the busy multi-lane highways of Dubai and Riyadh. Technology is focused on usability, with an intuitive touchscreen that integrates your essential media and navigation needs. Interior storage is plentiful, with various pockets and cup holders designed to hold large water bottles, keeping the family hydrated and comfortable on long cross-border road trips.

Safety

Safety in the Fortuner is built on a foundation of a high-strength chassis that has earned it a 5-star rating in various international NCAP tests. This EXR trim includes a comprehensive suite of active safety features, including Vehicle Stability Control (VSC) and Traction Control (TRC), which are vital for maintaining composure on shifting sand or oily tarmac after a light rain. Multiple airbags protect all three rows, and the ISOFIX mounting points make it a secure choice for families with small children. Standard anti-lock brakes (ABS) with Electronic Brakeforce Distribution (EBD) ensure that even when fully loaded with seven passengers and luggage, the vehicle can come to a controlled stop in an emergency. The high ground clearance also contributes to safety, as it allows the driver to see much further ahead in traffic, providing more time to react to hazards. Unlike some rivals that reserve these features for top-tier trims, Toyota includes the core safety architecture across the Fortuner range.

The bottom line

This Fortuner is the perfect match for a pragmatic GCC family who needs a vehicle that works as hard as they do and will never let them down in the heat. It is a 'buy with your head' opportunity where the low depreciation and legendary reliability effectively pay you back over the course of your ownership.
