Summary

This 2024 Toyota Fortuner EXR is an exceptionally strong buy for GCC families who prioritize long-term durability and mechanical simplicity. In the local market, the gold exterior is a smart choice as it naturally hides desert dust and holds its resale value significantly better than more niche colors. While many rivals have moved to complex turbocharged systems, the Fortuner's naturally aspirated 2.7L engine remains a regional favorite for its ease of maintenance and reliability in extreme summer heat. With seven seats and genuine four-wheel-drive hardware, it offers the perfect balance between a daily Dubai school-run vehicle and a capable weekend desert explorer. For the local buyer, the peace of mind provided by Toyota’s vast service network across the UAE and the wider GCC is the single most important ownership advantage.

This Car vs Other 2024 Fortuners

With 52,824 km, this vehicle's mileage is slightly above the typical GCC annual average of 25,000 km, yet it reflects the highway-heavy usage common for regional commuters. The gold exterior is a high-demand resale color in the local market, offering better heat reflection and maintenance ease compared to darker tones. It presents a robust opportunity for a buyer seeking a near-new model year with a proven mechanical history.

EXR vs Lower Trims

The EXR trim serves as the essential gateway to the Fortuner line-up, providing the core 4WD hardware and 7-seat configuration that GCC buyers demand. It includes standard LED headlights and an 8-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay, which are vital for modern connectivity. Unlike basic export trims, this GCC-spec EXR features rear climate control vents, a critical necessity for passenger comfort during the peak summer months.

Fortuner vs Segment Rivals

The Fortuner leads its segment by utilizing a rugged body-on-frame construction derived from the Hilux, giving it a durability advantage over monocoque rivals like the Nissan Pathfinder or Ford Explorer. Its 80-litre fuel tank is specifically optimized for long-distance desert drives between emirates, offering a superior range compared to many road-biased crossovers. While others focus on soft-road capabilities, the Fortuner's low-range transfer case ensures it is genuinely prepared for deep sand and gravel terrain.

Running Costs & Resale

The 2.7L petrol engine is engineered for longevity and is fully compatible with standard local fuel grades, keeping daily running costs predictable. Toyota maintains the highest value retention rate in the GCC used market, with the Fortuner typically depreciating significantly less than its American or European counterparts over a three-year period. Maintenance is straightforward, supported by an authorized service network that spans every major city in the UAE, Saudi Arabia, and Oman.

Performance & Capability

Boasting a commanding 225 mm ground clearance and a 700 mm wading depth, the Fortuner is built to handle everything from urban flooding to rugged wadi exploration. The selectable four-wheel-drive system with high and low-range gearing provides the mechanical grip needed for serious off-road weekends. On the highway, the 6-speed automatic transmission ensures a smooth cruise, making it a reliable companion for cross-country trips across the GCC.

Comfort & Cabin

The seven-seat interior is designed for family logistics, featuring a flexible layout that allows the third row to be folded away for extra cargo space. High-output air conditioning is a hallmark of the Fortuner, with dedicated vents for all three rows to combat the extreme regional heat. Durable fabric upholstery is chosen for the EXR trim to remain cool to the touch even when parked in direct sunlight, ensuring immediate comfort for all passengers.

Safety

Safety is managed through a suite of active and passive systems including Electronic Stability Control (VSC) and Traction Control (TRC), which are particularly effective on loose sand and gravel surfaces. This trim is equipped with front airbags and a driver-knee airbag for comprehensive protection. Additionally, Hill-start Assist Control (HAC) and Tyre Pressure Monitoring (TPMS) provide essential support for both steep dunes and fast-moving highway traffic.

The bottom line

Perfect for the pragmatic GCC family, this Fortuner offers unmatched reliability and a strong resale outlook in a nearly-new package.
