BYD Leopard 5 ULTRA

Highlights

• 0–100 km/h in 4.8 seconds
• 310 mm maximum ground clearance
• 1,200 km total combined range (CLTC)

Summary

This 2026 Leopard 5 ULTRA is a high-performance PHEV that disrupts the traditional 4x4 segment by pairing supercar-rivaling acceleration with genuine off-road hardware. As a brand-new vehicle with zero age, it offers a distinct advantage for GCC buyers looking for the latest in BYD’s DMO super-hybrid technology without the wait times of official agency imports. The black exterior is a high-liquidity color in the UAE market, ensuring strong resale demand and excellent thermal management when paired with the car's advanced cooling systems. It stands out from rivals by offering an all-electric commute for Dubai traffic and massive hybrid range for cross-border expeditions. For the GCC buyer, the most important consideration is the blend of body-on-frame durability with an incredibly efficient powertrain that handles extreme summer heat with its LFP Blade battery.

This Car vs Other 2026 Leopard 5s

Being a 2026 model year vehicle, this Leopard 5 carries the latest 40 kWh battery pack, which is a significant upgrade over the earlier 31.8 kWh versions found in older listings. Its mileage is at the absolute minimum for the GCC market, representing a 'showroom fresh' opportunity that bypasses the typical wear associated with used imports. In the local market, a black-on-black configuration like this is widely considered the safest investment for resale value retention.

ULTRA vs Lower Trims

The ULTRA trim is the flagship of the range, most notably adding the Yun Yan-P intelligent hydraulic suspension which allows you to lift the ground clearance to 310 mm for desert driving. While lower trims rely on standard steel springs, the ULTRA features a 15.6-inch rotating screen, a dedicated 12.3-inch passenger display, and a 50-inch AR head-up display. It also includes the premium Devialet audio system and Nappa leather seats with massage functions, features that are often optional or absent in the Discovery or Pilot trims.

Leopard 5 vs Segment Rivals

The Leopard 5 competes directly with the Toyota Land Cruiser Prado and the Tank 500, leading both in raw performance with its 680 hp output. While traditional rivals often struggle with high fuel consumption in city traffic, the Leopard 5 offers a 175 km pure electric range (CLTC) perfect for UAE urban commutes. Its body-on-frame construction and triple differential locks ensure it remains as capable as a Land Cruiser in the dunes of Liwa, but with significantly more modern cabin technology.

Running Costs & Resale

Real-world fuel consumption is remarkably low for an SUV of this size, averaging approximately 8.2L/100km when the battery is depleted, and nearly zero during electric-only city driving. Service intervals are typically every 20,000 km, though an initial check-up at 5,000 km is recommended for the GCC climate. While this is a Chinese-spec vehicle, a growing network of specialized EV service centers across the UAE and Saudi Arabia ensures parts and diagnostic support are readily available. Resale values for high-end BYD models have remained stable, typically depreciating at 12–15% annually, comparable to established European luxury SUVs.

Performance & Capability

With 680 hp and 760 Nm of torque, the Leopard 5 delivers a 0-100 km/h sprint of just 4.8 seconds, allowing for effortless highway overtaking even at high speeds. The DMO platform includes a 'Panther Turn' feature, which reduces the turning radius for better maneuverability in tight wadi tracks. Its off-road capability is supported by a 780 mm wading depth and selectable terrain modes specifically tuned for sand and rock crawling.

Comfort & Cabin

The 5-seat cabin is designed for GCC luxury, featuring Nappa leather upholstery with standard ventilation and heating for the front seats to combat summer heat. A factory-integrated refrigerator in the center console keeps beverages cold during long desert trips, while the 18-speaker Devialet system provides studio-quality sound. Dual-zone climate control with dedicated rear vents ensures all passengers remain comfortable during peak UAE afternoon temperatures.

Safety

The Leopard 5 ULTRA is equipped with the full DiPilot 3.0 ADAS suite, including high-speed adaptive cruise control, autonomous emergency braking, and a 360-degree camera with a 'transparent chassis' view for off-roading. Its LFP Blade battery is integrated into the chassis using CTC technology, which significantly improves structural rigidity and safety in the event of a side impact. Standard safety equipment includes multiple airbags, lane-keep assist, and blind-spot monitoring, which are essential for navigating fast-moving GCC highways.

The bottom line

For the tech-forward adventurer in the UAE, this 2026 ULTRA flagship offers a unique combination of supercar power and professional-grade off-roading. It is the perfect opportunity to own the latest EV technology in a rugged, high-resale black finish without the typical dealer markup.
