Buying a car in the UAE? Financing a car is a great way of getting the car of your dreams. But there are some things to consider first. You can read our full guide to getting finance for a car in the UAE.

You should do your homework on what you can really afford. There are many EMC or finance/car loan calculators online, including on Dubicars.com

In the UAE, to finance a car, you must be at least 21 years old. Minimum salary requirements vary from bank to bank but usually start at AED 3,000 to AED 5,000.

• Original Passport and Emirates ID
• Salary certificate
• 3-6 months bank statements (Most finance institutes will take 3)
• Driver’s license
• Valuation certificate (used cars only, if new, a quote from the showroom or an LPO)

• Do your research
• Get your finances in order
• Look around for the best deal
• Do a test drive
• Think about the running costs of the car once you’ve found it, factoring in costs like servicing, depreciation and fuel
• Negotiate – but sensibly, offering half the amount won’t go down well!
• Make sure you have all the paperwork to hand

• Make sure you clear your car debt/mortgage (see here different laws and rules for selling or transferring ownership with a car loan or mortgage). You will need a clearance certificate from your bank
• Clear any outstanding fines or SALIK/Toll charges
• Receiving money safely:
  • If you are issued a cheque ensure that it clears first before proceeding with the transfer of ownership
  • Cash is the best option.
  • A bank transfer is ok but always make sure you have the full funds before proceeding
  • The lesson is - always ensure you have the funds before you make the transfer!
