Will Petrol Price Decrease In August 2026?

In April, May & June 2026, petrol prices in the UAE increased due to the regional and global geopolitical scenario pushing crude oil prices to the roof. In April 2026, the Brent Crude Oil Index hit $126.69, its highest point since the Russia conflict in 2022. This led UAE fuel prices to their highest point since August 2022.

However, in the weeks since then, after the deescalation of the conflict, cruide oil prices have dropped again, touching approximately $72 per barrel in June. Given the drop in crude oil prices, petrol prices drop by up to AED 0.55 in July, and we expect fuel prices to reduce further in August. However, this is just a price prediction. How Did Petrol & Diesel Prices Change So Far In 2026

• For January 2026, petrol prices decreased by up to AED 0.17, while diesel dropped by AED 0.30.
• In February 2026, petrol prices decreased further by AED 0.09 while diesel prices dropped by AED 0.03.
• March 2026 saw petrol prices increase by up to AED 0.15 while diesel increased by AED 0.20.
• In April 2026, petrol prices increased by AED 0.80, and diesel shot up by AED 1.97. This comes as crude oil prices have increased because of the ongoing geopolitical situation
• In May 2026, fuel prices touched a minimum of AED 3.48 for the first time since August 2022.
• June 2026 petrol prices inched even closer to August 2022 prices, with an increase of up to AED 0.29. This also marked a 66% increase in fuel prices compared to February 2026.
• July brought some relief with a petrol price reduction of up to AED 0.55

Will UAE Fuel Prices Drop After OPEC Exit?

This is the big question on everyone’s minds: after a 33.3% increase in fuel prices for April 2026 plus an additional 8.75% in May and 8.04% in June, will fuel prices decrease? UAE’s OPEC exit was expected to benefit consumers in the mid-term and long-term, and start producing results starting from July or August 2026. It certainly did in July, and we expect it to do the same in August.

How Are Prices Of Fuel In The UAE Decided?

Prior to 2015, the UAE government highly subsidised fuel prices, thereby resulting in low petrol and diesel prices. This strategy also protected prices from fluctuations that come as a result of crude oil price trends. In September 2015, it was aligned with global oil prices. The Fuel Price Committee decides fuel prices in the UAE. 

A close look at the correlation between global crude oil prices and UAE fuel prices reveals that the UAE’s fuel price increase or decrease is dependent on the average increase/decrease of crude oil prices in the previous month. Several key factors influence crude oil prices, including economic policies and geopolitical developments. This results in the fluctuation of crude oil prices on a daily basis.
