New BMW 7 Series Arrives In The UAE With Neue Klasse Technology & More

BMW has launched the new 7 Series in the Middle East, with the flagship luxury sedan making its regional debut in Dubai. The updated model is now available in the UAE through AGMC and Abu Dhabi Motors, BMW’s official distributors in the country.

This is the most extensive model update ever undertaken by BMW Group. The seventh-generation 7 Series gains revised styling, a completely reworked digital experience and technology drawn from the Neue Klasse programme.

First launched in 1977, the 7 Series has traditionally served as BMW’s rolling technology laboratory. Across its seven generations, it has introduced technologies such as electronic engine management, satellite navigation and iDrive before they filtered down to smaller BMW models.

Nearly half a century later, that job description remains unchanged. Only now, the laboratory has a cinema screen, automatic doors and paintwork that takes longer to complete than some engine rebuilds.

What Is New On The BMW 7 Series?

The updated BMW 7 Series introduces a new luxury-class design language, BMW Panoramic iDrive, Operating System X and a dedicated front-passenger display. An upgraded Theatre Screen caters to rear occupants, while sixth-generation BMW eDrive technology increases the electric range of BMW i7 variants to more than 720km under WLTP testing.

BMW continues to offer the 7 Series with a broad selection of powertrains. Depending on the market and variant, buyers can choose from combustion engines with 48V mild-hybrid assistance, plug-in hybrids and fully electric i7 models.

The range also includes three M Performance variants, while the M Sport and M Sport Package Pro options add more aggressive styling and model-specific chassis tuning.

How Has The Exterior Design Changed?

The new 7 Series retains the imposing proportions that have defined the G70 generation, but almost every visible element has been tightened or simplified.

Its in-your-face front end features a redesigned BMW kidney grille with the illuminated Iconic Glow surround. Slim crystal-effect headlights sit above the main lighting units, maintaining the split-headlamp arrangement while giving it a cleaner appearance.

Reduced surface detailing along the flanks contributes to what BMW calls a “monolithic” design. In less architectural language, it looks enormous, expensive and unlikely to be mistaken for a 5 Series in the valet queue.

The rear receives redesigned lights and cleaner bodywork, while wheel sizes begin at 20 inches. New 22-inch factory wheels are also available, representing the largest rims BMW has fitted to a production 7 Series.

How Customisable Is The New 7 Series?

BMW Individual offers 130 exterior colours, 12 upholstery choices and more than 500 possible colour combinations. Customers wanting something even more exclusive can commission special-edition vehicles or one-off builds through BMW Individual Manufaktur.

Among the new shades are Vancouver Green Metallic and Frozen Silver Space. However, the headline option is BMW Individual Dual-Finish paintwork, available exclusively on the 7 Series.

The process combines a matt finish on the lower section of the body with metallic paint above it. A hand-applied coachline separates the two areas without leaving a noticeable transition between the finishes.

Developed over two and a half years, the Dual-Finish process requires more than 20 specially trained employees. Each car undergoes 12 painting stages and spends over 75 hours inside the paint shop at BMW Group Plant Dingolfing.

Around half of that time involves manual work, including masking, sanding, painting and applying the coachline. A conventionally painted 7 Series spends roughly one-sixth as long in the paint shop. Subtlety may remain optional, but handbuilt craftsmanship certainly does not.

Introducing BMW Panoramic iDrive

BMW Panoramic iDrive replaces the traditional instrument layout with information projected across the lower edge of the windscreen. Key driving data remains within the driver’s natural field of vision, reducing the need to look down at a conventional instrument cluster.

The system operates on BMW Operating System X and works alongside the central touchscreen, multifunction steering-wheel controls and voice commands. Drivers can configure the panoramic display to prioritise navigation, vehicle data, media or other frequently used functions.

BMW’s Intelligent Personal Assistant has also been upgraded with Amazon Alexa+ AI technology, allowing more natural voice interactions with the car.

Further connected features include BMW Maps, Digital Key Plus, smartphone integration, downloadable ConnectedDrive upgrades and over-the-air software updates.

What Do Passengers Get?

The 7 Series has mostly balanced the interests of the person holding the steering wheel with those of the person holding the board meeting, with priorities slightly skewed towards the latter. The new model places even greater emphasis on both front- and rear-seat passengers.

A dedicated BMW Passenger Screen makes its debut and is fitted as standard, giving the front passenger independent access to information and entertainment functions. This includes gaming!

Those in the rear can opt for the upgraded BMW Theatre Screen. The roof-mounted 8K display supports video streaming, gaming and video calls, effectively transforming the back of the 7 Series into a mobile cinema or, less excitingly, a particularly luxurious conference room.

The cabin combines leather, cloth, wood, metal and crystal glass with a new ambient-lighting arrangement. A Bowers & Wilkins audio system with Dolby Atmos provides the soundtrack.

Comfort equipment includes ergonomically developed seats, four-zone automatic climate control, a panoramic glass roof and the Travel & Comfort System. Buyers can also specify comfort seats, the Executive Lounge package and updated automatic doors.

Which Engines Are Available?

BMW has confirmed petrol engines with 48V mild-hybrid technology, plug-in hybrid powertrains and fully electric i7 variants for the wider range. The 740 is powered by a 3.0L twin turbo inline-six mild hybrid engine producing 400hp and can take the luxury sedan to 100km/h in just 5.4 seconds.

The plug-in hybrid BMW 750e xDrive combines a 308hp petrol engine with a 194hp electric motor and 18.7kWh battery for a driving experience that balances performance and efficiency. It can also clock up to 82km on pure electric power.

The electric models receive BMW’s sixth-generation eDrive technology and new cylindrical battery cells. Depending on the version and equipment fitted, BMW claims a WLTP range exceeding 720km. 

The i7 also offers adaptive energy recuperation, charging-optimised route planning and intelligent charging functions designed to reduce costs where compatible energy services are available.

Is The New 7 Series Still A Driver’s Car?

Every 7 Series has faced the same awkward assignment: deliver the isolation expected from a chauffeur-driven limousine while retaining enough agility to feel like a BMW from behind the wheel.

Adaptive two-axle air suspension is fitted as standard, using four electronically controlled dampers to continuously manage ride quality and body movement.

Optional Adaptive Chassis Control adds Integral Active Steering, allowing the rear wheels to turn and improve handling at low speeds while increasing stability at higher speeds. Adaptive Chassis Control Professional combines the rear-steering system with active roll stabilisation.

Models equipped with the M Sport package receive specific chassis upgrades, while the three M Performance versions push the dynamic character further.

BMW has also introduced digital tyre-condition monitoring supported by artificial intelligence, an integrated braking system and near-actuator wheel-slip limitation. The latter allows the car to correct loss of traction more rapidly because the control process takes place closer to the electric motor or engine management hardware.

What Driver-Assistance Features Does It Offer?

The new BMW 7 Series features expanded SAE Level 2 driver-assistance technology and additional active-safety systems.

Motorway Assistant can support hands-free driving at speeds of up to 130km/h where regulations permit it. City Assistant is designed to support navigation-guided journeys through urban environments, while BMW Maps can display a visual representation of surrounding traffic and assistance-system activity.

Standard Park Assist is joined by AI-supported parking-space detection and manoeuvre planning. BMW Symbiotic Drive allows the driver to make steering or braking adjustments without immediately cancelling the assistance system, creating a more cooperative relationship between the electronics and the person in control.

Is There An Armoured BMW 7 Series?

BMW is completing development of an updated 7 Series Protection for customers requiring considerably more than dark window tint and a large security detail.

The armoured flagship uses the BMW Protection Core, integrating steel, specialised alloys, composite materials and bullet-resistant glass into the vehicle’s structure. It carries VR9 certification, while VPAM 10 protection will be available as an option.

BMW also modifies the suspension and braking systems to compensate for the additional armour and preserve as much of the standard car’s handling character as possible.

New BMW 7 Series UAE Availability

The new BMW 7 Series has been introduced in the UAE through AGMC and Abu Dhabi Motors. AGMC represents BMW in Dubai, Sharjah and the Northern Emirates, while Abu Dhabi Motors serves Abu Dhabi and Al Ain.

UAE prices, available variants and delivery timings are expected to be confirmed shortly. All versions of the new 7 Series, including combustion-powered, plug-in hybrid and fully electric models, will be produced on the same assembly line at BMW Group Plant Dingolfing in Germany.

Editor’s Take

The 7 Series works best when BMW treats it as a preview of what the rest of its range will receive years later. Panoramic iDrive, Operating System X, sixth-generation eDrive hardware and AI-supported assistance systems make this update far more significant than the usual collection of new lights and wheel designs. The kidney grille and split headlamp styling will continue to split opinion, although nobody can accuse BMW’s flagship of lacking presence.

For the UAE, its combination of chauffeured comfort, extravagant personalisation and long-distance capability makes considerable sense. Most buyers will probably never order paint that requires 75 hours and 20 specialists, but in this corner of the market, knowing that they can is half the appeal.
