New Mercedes-Benz C-Class Debuts—Updated Design, AI Tech & Electrification
Mercedes-Benz has revealed the new C-Class, bringing one of the most extensive technical updates yet to its popular executive model. The latest update covers both the C-Class Saloon and Estate, with changes to the exterior, cabin technology, powertrains, chassis and driver assistance systems.
Rather than introducing an entirely new generation, Mercedes-Benz has heavily updated the current C-Class with technology from its newer models. Key additions include the MB.OS operating system, fourth-generation MBUX, AI-powered voice functions, updated electrified engines and plug-in hybrid models offering up to 100km of electric range.
What Has Changed On The New Mercedes-Benz C-Class?
Mercedes-Benz has revised both the front and rear of the C-Class while keeping its familiar overall proportions.
The most noticeable change is the new radiator grille. It has a stronger vertical design, chrome detailing and integrated contour lighting. Depending on the market and specification, the central Mercedes-Benz star can also be illuminated.

The headlights now feature star-shaped daytime running lights, while the C-Class Saloon receives matching star-inspired graphics in the rear lights.
Other exterior updates include redesigned bumpers, new wheel designs ranging from 17 to 19 inches and two additional paint colours: Lavender Silver Metallic and Moody Sky Grey Metallic.
An AMG Line Plus package is also available for the first time, adding high-gloss black exterior elements, the Night Package, sports seats, red stitching and red seat belts.
What Is New Inside The C-Class?
The cabin retains the current model’s vertical dashboard layout but receives a major software and technology upgrade.
A 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster sits in front of the driver, while the centre console uses an 11.9-inch portrait touchscreen.

The biggest update is the introduction of Mercedes-Benz Operating System, or MB.OS. It manages several vehicle systems and allows selected functions to receive over-the-air updates.
The fourth-generation MBUX system also introduces an upgraded Virtual Assistant using technology from ChatGPT, Microsoft Bing and Google Gemini. It can hold multi-step conversations, remember short-term context, and answer questions about navigation, destinations, weather, and other information.
Navigation is now based on Google Maps, while the system can also use Google’s Automotive AI Agent to provide information about destinations, parking spaces and charging stations.
Mercedes-Benz has also updated the multifunction steering wheel, bringing back rocker switches for cruise control and DISTRONIC along with a physical roller for volume adjustment.
What Comfort & Entertainment Features Are Available?
Optional multi-contour front seats include adjustable side bolsters, four-way lumbar adjustment and massage functions.
The optional Burmester 3D Surround Sound System uses 15 speakers and a 710W amplifier. Occupants can adjust the spatial sound effect across ten levels, while the system can automatically direct sound depending on which seats are occupied.

Ambient lighting offers 64 colours, ten preset colour themes and multiple brightness zones.
New cabin materials include Light Open-Pore Birch Wood, Anthracite Birch Wood and High-Gloss Silver Metal Mixed Fabric. New upholstery colours include Warm Beech Brown and Cherry Red.
The C-Class Estate continues to focus on practicality, offering 490 litres of luggage capacity. Folding its 40:20:40 split rear seats increases capacity to 1,510 litres.
What Engines Power The New Mercedes-Benz C-Class?
The engine range consists of electrified four-cylinder petrol and diesel engines along with plug-in hybrid options. Petrol models use the updated 2.0-litre M254 EVO turbocharged four-cylinder engine. They also feature a second-generation integrated starter-generator and a 48V mild-hybrid system. The mild-hybrid system can provide up to 17kW of additional assistance and 205Nm of torque.

Petrol outputs include:
- C 200: 177hp and 250Nm
- C 250: 218hp and 320Nm
- C 300: 258hp and 400Nm
The C 300 Saloon accelerates from 0-100km/h in 6.1 seconds and reaches a top speed of 250km/h. Mercedes-Benz has also introduced an electric auxiliary compressor to the petrol engine. It works alongside the conventional turbocharger to improve response at lower engine speeds and reduce turbo lag.
How Powerful Is The C-Class Plug-In Hybrid?
The plug-in hybrid range combines the 2.0-litre petrol engine with a more powerful electric motor. At the top of the range, the C 400 e 4MATIC produces a combined 395hp and 650Nm. The C 400 e 4MATIC Saloon accelerates from 0-100km/h in 5.3 seconds, while its top speed is 240km/h.
A 19.53kWh usable battery provides up to 100km of WLTP electric range. Charging is supported at up to 11kW AC, while DC fast charging reaches 55kW. C 300 e and C 400 e plug-in hybrid models are offered alongside rear-wheel-drive and 4MATIC configurations depending on the variant.
Are Diesel Engines Still Available?
Yes. Mercedes-Benz continues to offer its 2.0-litre OM654 EVO four-cylinder diesel engine. The C 200 d produces 163hp and 380Nm, while the C 250 d develops 200hp and 440Nm. A C 250 d 4MATIC version is also available. The diesel engine supports HVO100, B10 and B20 fuels and uses a variable-geometry turbocharger together with 2,200-bar common-rail injection.
Has The C-Class Chassis Been Updated?
Mercedes-Benz has returned the suspension to provide more agile handling without significantly affecting long-distance comfort. The chassis receives revised damping and a stiffer connection designed to reduce body movement and sharpen responses.

Optional rear-axle steering remains available. The rear wheels can turn by up to 2.5 degrees, reducing the turning circle by 43cm to 10.64 metres. Below 100km/h, the rear wheels steer in the opposite direction to the fronts to improve manoeuvrability. Above 100km/h, they steer in the same direction as the fronts to improve stability during higher-speed driving and lane changes.
What Safety & Driver Assistance Features Does It Get?
The latest C-Class can use up to 10 cameras, five radar sensors, and 12 ultrasonic sensors, depending on the specification.
The MB.DRIVE suite includes functions for steering assistance, lane keeping, braking, acceleration and maintaining distance from surrounding traffic.
MB.DRIVE ASSIST can perform assisted lane changes after the driver activates the indicator. MB.DRIVE ASSIST PLUS adds support in more complex situations, including approaching stop signs and traffic lights.
Parking assistance is also available, including a 360-degree camera, automated parking and unparking functions and a Reverse Function that can retrace part of a route previously driven forwards.
The updated DIGITAL LIGHT system uses micro-LED technology. Its high-resolution illumination area has increased by around 40%, while energy consumption is reduced by up to 50% compared with the previous system.
