Dubai Number Plate Auctioned For AED 55 Million ($15 Million); Becomes Most Expensive In The World

Dubai’s ‘ P 7” registration number plate has set the record for the most expensive number plate in the world. It was auctioned for AED 55 million ($15 million) at the ‘Most Noble Numbers’ auction on 08 April 2023. With this figure, the ‘P 7’ number plate has surpassed the previous AED 52.5 million record set by a number plate sold in Abu Dhabi 16 years ago.

The UAE is one of the wealthiest nations in the world and as a result, it isn’t uncommon to find the most expensive and luxurious cars in the world. In fact, several exclusive editions of hypercars and supercars are all found on Dubai’s roads. Since premium and expensive cars are few and far between, the one way to truly set your vehicle apart is by getting a unique number plate.

Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority regularly hosts events where some unique car number plates are auctioned off to the highest bidder. At one such auction held in March 2023, the RTA auctioned number plates worth AED 38.2 million. The most expensive number plate sold at the event was ‘AA 15’ which brought in AED 5.2 million which is a huge sum in itself.

However, that sum does pale in comparison to the AED 55 million that the ‘P 7’ number plate was auctioned for, on Saturday. Just to accentuate how big a sum this is, here is a quick look at some of the most expensive cars in the UAE.

A Bugatti Chiron Super Sport retails for around AED 14 million. A 2023 Rolls-Royce Phantom retails at around AED 2.1 million and a mind-numbingly fast Koenigsegg Jesko retails at around AED 12 million.

So, with AED 55 million, one could buy a Bugatti Chiron Super Sport, Koenigsegg Jesko, Rolls-Royce Cullinan, and a Bentley Continental GT Speed, and still have loads of money left to buy a dozen other cars. Or, one could get a number plate with a complimentary side of bragging rights that would last a long time.

The ‘P 7’ number plate was just one among many fancy number plates and phone numbers sold at the recent auction organised by Emirates Auction, RTA, Etisalat & Du. A total of nearly AED 100 million was raised at the auction and all proceeds will go towards the Dubai One Billion Meals Campaign.

The One Billion Meals Endowment campaign was launched under the Mohammed bin Rashid Global Initiatives umbrella and began on the first day of Ramadan 2023. The campaign to fight global hunger will go on until the One Billion meals number is achieved.
