Jetour T2 Review — Modern-Day Chinese Adventure SUV

Chinese cars are getting extremely popular in the UAE because of their amazing combination of modern technology and value-for-money pricing. We are reviewing one such fine example today, the Jetour T2 off-road SUV.

Exterior Design

The Jetour T2’s exterior design prioritizes off-road capability with a focus on functionality. A prominent grille with illuminated Jetour lettering and square-shaped headlights establishes a commanding presence. The off-road front bumper and flat bonnet further emphasize the T2’s readiness for challenging terrain.

Functional design continues throughout the T2. Body cladding protects the vehicle, while coloured accents, roof rails, and side steps enhance aesthetics and practicality. The 20-inch alloy wheels finished in dark grey look fabulous on the SUV.

The rear features a unique kinked quarter window that wraps around the rear windshield, creating a distinctive “floating roof” design.  A side-opening tailgate and a squared-off spare tyre on the back solidify the T2’s off-road prowess.

Interior Design

The interior design reflects the T2’s rugged exterior with a focus on clean lines and functionality. Thanks to its generous dimensions, the T2 boasts ample space for passengers and cargo. The extra-long wheelbase of 2800mm translates to legroom for both front and rear passengers.

The cabin uses soft-touch leatherette upholstery across the cabin to provide a premium touch and feel. The 475L boot space is practical and can accommodate a ton of stuff at the back. Read this linked article to know the top features of the Jetour T2.

Technology

As mentioned earlier, the T2 comes loaded with a ton of features. Here are the highlights.

The T2 uses a 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engine paired with a 7-speed DCT gearbox that drives all four wheels via an AWD system.

Jetour T2 Driving Impressions

Engine & Gearbox:

The turbo-petrol engine under the bonnet of the Jetour T2 packs a punch. While its 252hp and 390Nm don’t make it the most powerful 2.0-litre engine in an SUV, it certainly has more oomph than its competition, as seen in this detailed Jetour T2 vs Tank 300 comparison

The engine is refined both at low speeds and at cruising speeds. However, pedal-to-the-metal driving will bring some engine noise into the cabin, and that isn’t necessarily a downside. It is quick to shift through the 7-speed DCT gearbox and the SUV accelerates from 0-100km/h in just 8.7 seconds. It will go on to a top speed of 180km/h.

Suspension & Handling:

The T2 utilizes a double-wishbone front suspension and a multi-link rear suspension. This combination provides a good balance between off-road capability and comfortable on-road handling. It is made to handle both rough and smooth terrain with grace.

Offroad Ability:

While its on-road mannerisms are quite likable, the Jetour T2 is even more impressive off the road. Its BorgWarner-sourced all-wheel-drive system is among the more capable AWD systems in this price bracket. At the Jetour T2 Launch event earlier this year, professional drivers from Jetour China put the car through its paces, taking guests and media representatives for a short joyride through a patch of sand.

We decided to put it through an off-road test of our own. The ride quality in the desert is certainly much better than some established and legendary off-road SUVs this region is known for. You can leave the drive mode selector button on automatic or as Jetour calls it, ‘X’ mode.

Or, you could turn it into ‘Mud/Sand,’ and the Jetour T2 will take on the desert dunes with ease. However, make sure to turn the traction control off before driving in the sand. With 220mm ground clearance and 700mm water wading capacity, it is also a capable machine during floods.

Review Verdict

Cruising effortlessly at triple-digit speeds with the adaptive cruise control turned on while driving back from the dune-bashing session, makes you reflect on how good an all-rounder the Jetour T2 really is. The Jetour T2 offers a perfect blend of modernity, style, practicality, performance, and versatility. If you are looking for a car that will cater to your adventure needs and also take you and your family on daily runs, the T2 should be on your shopping list.
