Lamborghini Delays Plans For Urus EV: New-Gen PHEV SUV To Arrive In 2029
Lamborghini has confirmed a clear plan for its Urus SUV line-up. The current Urus has gone hybrid in 2024 as the SE. In a recent media interaction, Lamborghini’s CEO, Stephan Winkelmann, revealed that a new-generation plug-in hybrid Urus will launch in 2029. The fully electric Urus EV is now pushed back to 2035.
Current Urus Gets Hybrid Power
The popular Urus SUV received a plug-in hybrid version in 2024. This move helped Lamborghini cut emissions and meet strict rules. The current-gen Lamborghini Urus SE is the most powerful Urus ever made.
It uses a 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 paired with an electric motor, giving a combined output of around 800hp. This makes it much more powerful than the Urus S and even the sport-focused Urus Performante, which has 666hp.

The Urus SE can do a 0–100kmph run in just 3.4 seconds and reach a top speed of about 312 kmph. It also has an electric-only range of up to 60km, thanks to its 25.9 kWh battery.
When Will The Next-Gen Urus Launch?
Lamborghini will replace the current Urus with a new-generation plug-in hybrid in 2029. The next Urus will use more advanced tech. It will help the brand bridge the gap before going fully electric.
The new Urus PHEV will sit on the Volkswagen Group’s SSP platform. This new base supports better electric driving and future upgrades.
When Will The Urus EV Arrive?
The big change will come in 2035. Lamborghini plans to launch its first fully electric Urus then. The EV will offer four electric motors and all-wheel drive. It will also use the SSP platform for a longer range and fast charging.
The delay gives Lamborghini time to develop high-performance electric tech that matches its brand image.
Lamborghini’s Road to Zero Emissions
The Urus changes are part of Lamborghini’s bigger plan. The brand wants to cut emissions while keeping its performance DNA intact. The new Revuelto supercar is already a plug-in hybrid. The next Huracán will follow the same path.
By moving step by step, Lamborghini hopes to win over buyers who love the roar of petrol engines but want greener options.
What Buyers Need to Know

For now, Urus buyers can get the SE hybrid model launched in 2024. In 2029, the next-gen Urus PHEV will replace it. The fully electric Urus EV will hit the roads in 2035.
This long plan shows Lamborghini is taking its time to get the electric performance right. Fans will need to wait for a pure electric Urus, but they get more choices until then.
