RTA launches online vehicle mortgage clearance in Dubai

RTA Dubai

The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has developed an integrated online network to facilitate public, regarding vehicle mortgage release. The residents in Dubai can now apply for vehicle mortgage clearance, without physically visiting the RTA.

According to the authority, a new system has been set up that integrates 89 companies including banks, financial firms and others offering vehicle mortgage services to their customers and employees. These companies will update the mortgage release information online, after which, RTA will notify motorists about their clearance through an SMS or email. People who have not completely paid off their mortgage but intend to travel outside the country can also apply for temporary release of mortgage online.

The online system has been created and launched for the ease of motorists across Dubai; they had to visit their bank over and over again to obtain the clearance after paying off their vehicle mortgage. With this improved online system, car owners can easily apply and receive the clearance confirmation. This promotes the RTA’s aim of paperless transaction.

As the Roads and Transport Authority has moved the overall process online, no bank will issue the mortgage release certificate anymore. The clearance information is automatically generated once the entire mortgage is paid off. This information is then transmitted to the motorists via RTA. Although the confirmation message from RTA is authentic and can be presented as a proof of mortgage release, owners can ask the bank in person to issue a physical certificate.

Indeed, people who have repaid their auto loan are strongly recommended to request their banks for a letter proving that all outstanding dues are cleared. The letter should be kept in personal record and used when needed. A printed letter is not only recommended for vehicle mortgage, but all kind of short and long term loans. The clearance letter should be provided by the bank without any charges, while the fee for no-liability certificate may range from Dh50 to Dh100.

The RTA is continuously integrating technology with its operations in order to maximise its efficiency and minimise the inconvenience of customers.
