Introduced in 1984, the Ferrari 288 GTO marked a defining moment in the evolution of the modern supercar. Originally developed for Group B racing homologation, it brought motorsport ambition to the road through lightweight engineering, turbocharged performance and a design that was remarkably ahead of its time.
 
Designed by Leonardo Fioravanti at Pininfarina, the 288 GTO took inspiration from the Ferrari 308 but transformed it into a wider, shorter and more muscular machine. Its pronounced rear haunches, distinctive side gills, bonnet louvers, pop-up headlights and iconic four round rear lights gave it a silhouette that remains unmistakable decades later.
 
Power comes from a longitudinally mounted 2.8-litre twin-turbocharged V8 producing 400 hp, delivering extraordinary performance for its era. Combined with a mid-engine layout and lightweight construction incorporating advanced composite materials, the GTO offered a thrilling blend of power, agility and racing-derived engineering.
 
With just 272 examples produced, the 288 GTO became far more than a homologation special. It laid the groundwork for the legendary Ferrari F40, establishing a philosophy of uncompromising performance that would shape Ferrari's supercars for generations to come.
