Summary

The 2004 Corolla XLI remains a benchmark for reliability and running costs across the region, making it an ideal choice for a daily workhorse. This specific Tan example carries the legendary 4-cylinder engine known for surviving the harshest GCC summers with minimal maintenance. With its automatic transmission and GCC regional specification, it offers a straightforward and dependable driving experience that few modern rivals can match for the price. Tan is a highly practical exterior choice for the local environment, effectively masking desert dust between washes. For a buyer seeking maximum durability and parts availability from Abu Dhabi to Muscat, this listing represents a proven mechanical investment.

This Car vs Other 2004 Corollas

With 274,000 km on the odometer, this vehicle sits within the expected mileage range for a twenty-year-old GCC-spec commuter, where annual averages often reach 20,000 km. While higher than a weekend car, this mileage is a testament to the model's longevity and suitability for long-distance highway use common in the UAE. The Tan exterior is one of the most resilient colors for the local climate, offering better heat reflection and easier maintenance than darker shades.

XLI vs Lower Trims

The XLI trim serves as the essential foundation of the Corolla lineup, focusing on the features that matter most to local owners: powerful air conditioning and mechanical simplicity. Unlike base commercial versions, this XLI includes the essential automatic gearbox and a cabin designed for 5-passenger comfort. It avoids the complex electronic sensors found in higher trims, which often become service liabilities as a vehicle ages in extreme heat.

Corolla vs Segment Rivals

When compared to the Nissan Sunny or Mitsubishi Lancer of the same era, the Corolla leads significantly in long-term value retention and parts accessibility. Its cooling system is widely regarded as the most robust in the compact segment, a critical factor for stop-start traffic in cities like Dubai or Riyadh. The 50-litre fuel tank provides a generous range, making it a more capable long-distance cruiser than many smaller-tanked rivals.

Running Costs & Resale

Ownership costs for this model are among the lowest in the GCC, with parts available at almost every independent garage and authorized center across the region. It runs efficiently on standard petrol, with real-world fuel consumption typically averaging between 7.5 and 8.5 L/100km depending on highway vs. city splits. Historically, this generation of Corolla has one of the slowest depreciation rates in the used market, often selling quickly due to high demand for reliable secondary vehicles.

Performance & Capability

The naturally aspirated 4-cylinder engine is tuned for consistency rather than raw speed, providing smooth power delivery for city commuting. Its 4-speed automatic transmission is specifically engineered to handle the high ambient temperatures of the Middle East without overheating during midday drives. The suspension is set up to be soft, absorbing road imperfections and speed humps with ease while maintaining a stable footprint on the highway.

Comfort & Cabin

The interior features durable fabric seating for five, designed to remain cool to the touch even after being parked in the sun. The air conditioning system is a standout feature, known for its ability to rapidly cool the cabin during the peak of summer. Rear-seat passengers benefit from a flat floor design, providing more legroom than many contemporary sedans in this class, making it a viable family transporter.

Safety

Standard safety features for this GCC-spec XLI include a reinforced body structure and essential crumple zones designed to protect passengers in urban traffic. The car is equipped with front SRS airbags and a high-mount stop lamp for better visibility on fast-moving highways. Its mechanical braking system is designed for easy maintenance, ensuring consistent stopping power with minimal technical intervention.

The bottom line

This Corolla is the perfect opportunity for a buyer who prioritizes mechanical peace of mind and low ownership costs over modern gadgets. It is a proven GCC workhorse that is ready to serve for many more years with Toyota's signature reliability.
