Jaguar XK PORTFOLIO

Highlights

• 385 hp from a 5.0-litre V8
• 0–100 km/h in 5.6 seconds
• Bowers & Wilkins audio system standard

Summary

This Jaguar XK Portfolio represents a refined opportunity to own a naturally aspirated V8 grand tourer that is ideally suited for the GCC climate. With 88,000 km, its mileage is significantly lower than the typical 15-year average in the region, where high-speed highway commuting is the norm. The white exterior is the most practical choice for the UAE, offering superior heat management and consistently strong resale demand in the local used market. As a 2009 model with the updated 5.0-litre engine, it provides a substantial power increase over earlier variants while maintaining the classic grand touring character. For a GCC buyer, this specific trim offers the essential comfort of ventilated seats, making it a viable year-round luxury convertible.

This Car vs Other 2009 XKs

At 88,000 km, this XK has been driven roughly 5,800 km per year, which is exceptionally low for a region where annual averages often reach 25,000 km. While many 2009 models in the market feature the older 4.2-litre engine, this example carries the more desirable 5.0-litre V8 introduced during the mid-year transition. The white exterior provides a significant advantage for UAE ownership, as it remains cooler in direct sunlight and holds value better than darker shades at resale.

PORTFOLIO vs Lower Trims

The Portfolio trim elevates the XK from a standard sports car to a true luxury flagship by adding features that are highly prized in the GCC. It includes the 525-watt Bowers & Wilkins premium audio system and soft-grain leather with contrast stitching across the dashboard and door panels. Most importantly for local buyers, this trim adds ventilated front seats and 16-way power adjustments, features often absent on the base models.

XK vs Segment Rivals

The Jaguar XK stands out against rivals like the Mercedes-Benz SL and BMW 6 Series by utilizing an all-aluminum monocoque chassis, which provides superior agility and resistance to the high-humidity coastal environments of the UAE. While German competitors often feel more clinical, the XK offers a distinctly British character and a more compliant ride quality for long-distance cruising between emirates. Its 5.0-litre naturally aspirated V8 is often preferred by local enthusiasts for its linear power delivery and classic exhaust note compared to the turbocharged units found in later rivals.

Running Costs & Resale

Real-world fuel consumption for the 5.0-litre V8 typically averages around 11.2 L/100km in combined driving, though GCC city traffic may see this rise toward 17 L/100km. Service intervals are recommended every 13,000 km or 12 months, with a well-established network of authorized service centers and specialized independent garages across Dubai and Abu Dhabi. As a GCC-spec car, it commands a price premium of 15–20% over imported American or European models due to its verified history and regional cooling upgrades.

Performance & Capability

The 5.0-litre V8 produces a robust 385 hp, allowing this convertible to reach a top speed of 250 km/h (electronically limited). The 6-speed ZF automatic transmission features steering-wheel-mounted paddle shifters for immediate manual control during highway overtaking. Its lightweight aluminum construction ensures that the 515 Nm of torque translates into effortless acceleration, making it an exceptional grand tourer for the fast-moving highways of the GCC.

Comfort & Cabin

The cabin is a 2+2 layout featuring heated and ventilated front seats, which are essential for maintaining comfort during the extreme UAE summer months. Dual-zone automatic climate control with a humidity sensor ensures the interior remains perfectly tempered even with the top down in milder months. High-quality materials like the Alston luxury headlining and figured ebony veneers provide a bespoke feel that differentiates this Portfolio edition from standard luxury sedans.

Safety

This XK is equipped with a comprehensive safety suite including a rollover protection system specifically designed for the convertible body style. Standard safety features include Dynamic Stability Control (TracDSC), emergency brake assist, and a tire pressure monitoring system that is vital for safe high-speed travel in high-temperature conditions. Front and rear parking sensors are also standard, assisting with maneuverability in tight urban spaces.

The bottom line

This low-mileage, GCC-spec Portfolio is the ideal choice for a buyer seeking a classic V8 Jaguar that is fully equipped for the regional climate and retains high resale potential.
